What is new on the battlefield? While AB3Tech focuses on scaling Ukrainian defense technologies, we also run continuous, structured analysis of Russia’s battlefield innovation. New systems, tactics, and capabilities provide operationally relevant insights. They show how the battlefield is changing and where countermeasures must be developed next. In short, this work can become a genuine tactical edge. For AB3Tech, understanding how the adversary adapts is a core analytical layer of building Ukraine’s next battlefield advantage. This month, AB3Tech joined Snake Island Institute’s Defense Tech Monthly to bring even more insights on battlefield breakthroughs from frontlines. Defense Tech Monthly is a publication series that features frontline defense technology updates and insights drawn directly from the field. In this year’s first edition, we talk about ▪️Geran-5 Unveiled — a faster, higher-flying Shahed derivative that blurs the line between loitering munition and cruise missile. ▪️“Dataroom” Launch — a digital environment to accelerate the development of AI-enabled air-defense capabilities using real battlefield data. ▪️Machine-Gun-Armed UGV and POWs — after the first-ever case of POWs captured by a kamikaze UGV in 2025, January marked the first published surrender to a machine-gun-armed platform. ▪️Deep-Strike Campaign — January’s strikes on Russian oil and energy infrastructure, military-industrial facilities, and supporting systems.
