As Black History Month comes to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the impactful words of Jimi, the Global Lead of our UNITY Employee Inclusion Group: “Black History is American History. It is powerful. It is layered. It is my heritage, and a celebration of not only my ancestors, but human beings who have made significant contributions to this world. It is an honor for me to stand on the shoulders of those who came before me as I try to pave the way for those who will come after me.” This month, our Smith+Nephew community came together to learn, connect, and give back through a Black History Course, Book Club, Cultural Conversations, a Networking Event at Mahogany River Terrace in Memphis, and Community Service with Habitat Restore. Here’s how we’ve put our values into action this week… 🍂 Our Talent Acquisition team in Costa Rica took a pause from their annual kick off meeting to help clear trails at Poás Volcano National Park, starting the year with a moment of giving back. 🪑 Our Suzhou office in China received an award from the Director General of the local Education Bureau for donations they made during a recent office renovation. Two batches of furniture were donated to remote schools, benefitting around 2,000 students. Here’s how we’ve put our values in action globally this week… 🧠Our Brazil office held a mindfulness session in recognition of Janeiro Branco (White January), a national mental health initiative. A visiting psychologist led the team through tips for practicing pause, presence and self-care on a daily basis. 🛹As part of the annual Australia and New Zealand Kick-Off Meeting, our teams were challenged to flex their teamwork skills by building skateboards together. The finished boards were donated to families in need, transforming team building into social impact.
