Merchandise your products with Google Play in Gemini

With Google Play in Gemini, users can discover and purchase your in-app products and subscriptions directly within the Gemini app in a conversational flow.

As part of Google Play's out-of-app merchandising capabilities, Google Play in Gemini surfaces relevant items from your catalog to users right when they express a relevant intent, making it easier for them to discover and buy what they need.

Key benefits

  • Reach users at the point of intent: Gemini matches conversational queries with the utility and value proposition of your in-app items, serving recommendations right when users are looking for solutions.

  • Incremental discovery and purchases: Gain additional surface visibility for your existing catalog with no new integration work required.
  • Unified catalog management: Manage your products for Gemini using the same central interface as your other out-of-app merchandising surfaces in the Merchandising and optimization page.

Eligibility

To participate in Google Play in Gemini, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be enrolled in the out-of-app merchandising program through the Merchandising and optimization page in Play Console.
  • Your catalog must contain eligible one-time products or subscriptions.

How to participate

There is no separate opt-in required for Google Play in Gemini.

If you are already active in the Merchandising and optimization page, your selected products are automatically evaluated and surfaced in Gemini.

Choose which products to surface

To select which products are surfaced:

  1. Open Play Console and navigate to Monetize with Play > Merchandising and optimization.
  2. In the Merchandised products section, add or remove SKUs. Any active SKU saved here becomes eligible for Google Play in Gemini, as well as Play's other merchandising surfaces.
  3. Click Save and then click Apply.

Metadata quality requirements

To effectively match conversational queries to relevant in-app SKUs, Gemini relies heavily on rich, descriptive metadata. While all the SKUs you enroll in the studio are indexed for Gemini, your metadata's validation status acts as a critical ranking variable. Verified, high-quality metadata is boosted to the top of conversational recommendations.

Products that do not meet the metadata standards are flagged in Play Console to prompt remediation.

To maximize your ranking power, ensure your SKU descriptions are detailed and descriptive. Your metadata should clearly identify:

  • What the item is (for example, "10-pack profile booster")
  • Its specific utility or outcome.
  • The value proposition it provides.
  • The target persona and user situations or intent triggers it solves.

Example of a strong description: "This item is a consumable 10-pack profile booster that temporarily elevates the user's profile to be one of the top profiles in their local area for 30 minutes per boost. It provides up to 10x more profile views and significantly higher match rates during peak hours. This purchase is ideal for active dating app users who are receiving low profile views, want to get more matches quickly, or are looking to stand out in high-density areas."

If any of your products are flagged in Play Console, update your SKU titles, images, and descriptions to ensure they are fully optimized for conversational discovery.
