Declaring AI-generated content in Play Console

To ensure transparency for users, regulations require that Artificial Intelligence-generated or edited content or assets (such as images, text, or video) be labeled under certain circumstances.

This guidance helps you navigate these new regulations.

Why is this declaration required?

Consistent with applicable AI regulations, Google Play requires clear labeling of AI-generated content under certain circumstances. This helps maintain a trustworthy ecosystem by informing consumers when they are interacting with or viewing assets created by AI-powered tools.

Core principles of declaration

The Google Play ecosystem utilizes a self-declaration model.

  • New submission requirements: This applies to any assets being introduced to Google Play Console via content creation flows.
  • Asset-specific reporting: Each individual item, whether it be a video or image must be declared on its own merits.

Assets requiring declaration

You must provide a self-declaration for any submitted assets. This includes:

  • Visual assets: Images and videos used in your Store listings, Promotional content, YouTube videos etc.

How to complete the declaration

The declaration process is integrated directly into the standard content creation flows within Play Console.

  1. Create new content: Navigate to the sections for Store listings, Promotional Content, YouTube Videos (Grow users> Store presence) and begin your content creation flow.
  2. Choose to apply the AI Label: For each content created, you will see a standardized checkbox stating "Regulations require that AI-generated content be labeled under certain circumstances" or similar.
  3. Review and Submit: Ensure the box is checked for all the assets you deem to be in scope for the regulations. You may manually untick the declaration within the creation flows or in the Asset library in assets details.
Note: Declared assets will be AI-labeled on the Google Play Store and other surfaces where used.
