Google Play offers two developer account types: personal and organization. This guide explains the differences between personal and organization developer accounts in Google Play Console to help you choose the right account type for your needs. This article is intended for developers setting up a new Play Console account. Before choosing an account type, ensure that you have a Google Account and understand your app distribution goals. Personal and organization accounts have access to the same core functionality and can monetize on Google Play using a payments profile.
Developer accounts for personal use
Choose a personal account if your account is for personal use—for example, if you're a student, hobbyist, or amateur developer. With a personal account, you can earn money on Google Play, invite others to join your account, and manage your apps.
Developer accounts for organization or business use
Choose an organization account if you're creating an account for an organization or business—for example, if you're engaged in commercial, industrial, professional, or governmental activities.
You must choose an organization account if you provide any of the following services:
- Financial products and services, including banking, loans, stock trading, investment funds, cryptocurrency software wallets, and cryptocurrency exchanges. For more information, see the Financial Services policy.
- Health apps, such as medical apps and human subjects research apps. For more information, see Health app categories and additional information.
- Apps approved to use the
VpnServiceclass. For more information, see the VPN Service policy. - Government apps, including apps developed by or on behalf of a government agency. For more information, see Requirements for apps that communicate government information.
To create a developer account for an organization, you must provide a D-U-N-S number. Google Play uses this mandatory requirement to verify your organization's identity. If you represent a government organization that does not have a D-U-N-S number, contact support during registration to request verification assistance.
