Fix a blank, frozen, or error message on the Google Pixel Watch screen

Important:

  • Your Google Pixel Watch doesn’t have a physical reset button.
  • Do not insert any items, such as paper clips, into the mic hole on the side of the Pixel Watch.
  • Do not insert any objects into the charging pins on the back of Pixel Watch 2 and 3.

How to Troubleshoot your Google Pixel Watch

If your Pixel Watch won’t turn on or becomes unresponsive, you may need to restart or hard reset your watch.

Fix a blank, frozen, or unresponsive screen

A restart should resolve a frozen or blank watch face that won’t turn on or unresponsive touchscreen.

  1. On your Pixel Watch, press and hold the crown for 3 seconds.

  2. Scroll down and tap Restart.
  3. If your watch screen is still unresponsive after a restart, perform a hard reset.
  4. Press and hold the crown and side button for about 35 seconds (or longer) until the "G" logo appears. The watch should restart and be ready to use shortly.

Fix your watch when an error message appears or startup freezes

Important: When you factory reset your watch, all your apps, settings, and data are erased.

First, try the steps above to restart your Pixel Watch. If your device still won't pair with your phone, factory reset your watch to fix the issue.

A factory reset helps resolve multiple issues you may encounter in the Google Pixel Watch app, which include:

  • "Can’t pair" or "Can’t find your watch" error message on the Pixel Watch app
  • Forgotten PIN or passcode
  • "Something went wrong" error message
  • Frozen screen with the "G" logo
Step 1: Factory reset from the Pixel Watch or Pixel Watch app

From your Pixel Watch

  1. Swipe down and tap Settings .
    You can alternatively press and hold the crown for 3 seconds.
  2. Tap Settings and then Disconnect & reset and then Ok .

From the Pixel Watch app

  1. On your phone, open the Pixel Watch app .
  2. Tap System and then Reset and unpair watch.
Step 2: Try your phone settings if your watch won't Factory reset
  1. Uninstall the Pixel Watch app .
  2. Tap Settings and then Connected devices.
  3. Forget any watch devices listed.
  4. Restart the phone.
  5. After the phone has restarted, make sure your watch and phone are near each other. Your phone should display the pairing screen so you can set up your watch again.
Step 3: Factory reset from Fastboot

Important: You can factory reset your watch from your phone or use the Fastboot reset method. Sign in with your most recent PIN or Google Account login when you re-pair your phone and watch after the factory reset. This will help you prevent others from using your device without permission.

If other steps don't work:

  1. Press and hold the crown and the side button of your Pixel Watch for around 20 seconds.
    • You'll find a dark screen with the "G" logo or a colorful "G" logo on your watch.
    • If your watch is currently turned off, press and hold the crown for a few seconds to turn it on.
  2. As soon as the watch displays the "G" logo, tap the upper-left and lower-right edges of the watch face screen at the same time. Your watch will enter Fastboot mode.

  3. Press the side button next to the crown to scroll.
  4. When "Recovery Mode" is highlighted, press the crown. You'll find the "No Command" message on the watch face.
  5. Press and hold the crown and swipe up on your screen at the same time. A debug screen will appear on the watch face.
  6. Swipe down until "Wipe Data or Factory Reset" is highlighted.
  7. Swipe right to factory reset your watch and PIN.
  8. Once your data is wiped, swipe right or press the crown when “Reboot system now” is highlighted.
Step 4: Hard reset your watch while connected to the charger

If your screen remains unresponsive after you perform the steps above, try to hard reset your watch while it’s connected to the charger.

If you've tried all of the steps above and your watch still hasn't reset, contact support.
Step 5: Reconnect your phone and watch

After you factory reset your watch, you can try to reconnect it to your phone. For the instructions, refer to Set up Google Pixel Watch.
