A registered app store is an app marketplace that has completed a registration process with Android to provide a new experience on your device.
Registered app stores provide the following:
- One-tap installs: Apps download and install directly, without additional permission screens or confirmation prompts.
- Automatic Updates: Apps can update in the background without having to approve every update manually. App stores must not install apps silently without users’ consent.
- Safety and peace of mind: Registered app stores must meet certain safety and quality standards, and your built-in device protections continue to scan apps to keep you safe.
Add a registered app store
Tip: Adding a registered app store doesn’t replace your existing app stores. You can have multiple app stores on your device and choose which app store to use to download each app.
- Open your phone’s browser.
- Go to the registered app store's official website, and tap Download or Install.
- When the download finishes, tap Open on the download notification.
- On the "Install this app store?" screen, review the developer information and tap Install.
- Tip: Because the app store is registered with Android, you don't need to change any "Install unknown apps" permissions in Settings.
- When you see "Store installed,” tap Open to start using the app store, or tap Done.
Uninstall a registered app store
Tip: You can uninstall a registered app store at any time. Any apps you downloaded from it will remain on your phone.
From your Home screen or app list:
- Tap and hold the app store's icon.
- Tap App info
Uninstall.
- Tap OK to confirm.
From the Settings app:
- Open your phone's Settings app.
- Tap Apps
See all apps.
- Select the app store you want to remove.
- Tap Uninstall, then tap OK to confirm.
Where registered app stores are available
Availability of registered app stores depends on the country set in your Google Account, even if you bought your phone or tablet in a different country. If you aren't signed in to a Google Account, the system will look at other details, like your mobile network provider or current IP address, to determine what's available to you.
- If you go on vacation or take a short trip to another country, you will still have the same user experience for the registered app stores on your devices.
- If you live in an unsupported region, temporarily visiting a supported country will not enable the registered app store features on your device.
- If you move to a new country and update your address, your phone will automatically adjust to the available registered app store features in your new location.
- Important: If you use a device managed by your workplace or school, availability may also depend on your organization’s policies.
