"Bimatoprost analogs" in lash serums can cause permanent orbital fat loss, leading to "sunken eyes" as a long-term side effect of enhancing lash length. I believe the shift toward caffeine-infused concealers is a safer response; they temporarily constrict blood vessels to reduce puffiness without risking the permanent anatomical changes associated with certain hormone-mimicking active ingredients.

The Ultimate Makeup Scam - Beauty 2026 Shopping

My greatest makeup regret 🙃
I’ve been coloring and crafting long enough to consider myself an artist. And being an artist has taught me that rules are not real. How to use certain colors how to use certain shapes in certain ways Only? It's mostly bull. Everything can be everything if you know how to bend it.

beauty: when women aren't consumers but consumed

Beauty is a commodity because women are a commodity
“Our country had become a consumer nation, but it is strange that this sad, greedy noun we chose for ourselves did not instantly make clear that beauty is our problem, our lack, even in an introverted sense, our obsession.” — Patricia Hampl, The Beauty Disease: From "A Romantic Education"

if you get what i mean?
December 23, 2025

no, you're not wearing make-up for yourself.

when beauty is capital, there is no such thing as a woman pursuing beauty strictly for herself.
i wear makeup. i like how it makes me look and i feel better when i look, well, better. or what we’ve come to understand is “better.” older (or if you’re already old: younger), livelier, glowier. more stereotypically feminine. more like how a woman “should” look. and yes, there are parts of it that are fun and can be artistic — i like blue eyeshadow, i …

no matter how uncomfortable it makes us, the beauty industry is absolutely one perpetuated by patriarchy, propagating racism, and consistently driven by capitalism. god, this essay is bloody brilliant !! i got a lot of hate recently for saying i despised plastic surgery and a lot of people took it as a personal attack, perhaps because i wasn’t eloquent enough in saying i hate that there are systems in place that make people (but mostly women let’s be real) feel the need to get plastic surgery, not the individuals that get it… but god, grace you’ve articulated it so marvellously !! i completely agree though, it’s so difficult to fight the brainwash 😫

REAL!!! I was thinking just this morning about the freckles trend and wondering where it went. It's a sensitive topic for a lot of people, where the motivation for wearing makeup, specific clothes, body hair, exercise, etc comes from, and I am not excluded from this! I realised a year or so ago that I didn't recognise myself without makeup, and that scared the shit out of me. Since then, I only wear it if I'm going out out or to an event (unless I'm trying to learn something makeup look wise in which case I sometimes practice).
I think it's also interesting how people will look at you differently based on how you look - the 'pretty privilege' argument that did the rounds on social media a couple of years ago is interesting but in some ways not too divorced from the reality - as you say, looks are capital. But there is an idea I have come across (more so in my parents' generation than mine) that body hair is somehow unhygienic, or that everyone in a plus size body is secretly miserable. I am sure some people with body hair are unhygienic and some people in plus size bodies are miserable, but I don't think that's the sole culprit, NOR IS IT THE CASE UNIVERSALLY!!!
This was a really interesting read, thank you for reposting it!! <333

I Worked With Hundreds of Women This Year: These Are the 7 Beauty Habits They All Had in Common

I cannot, for the life of me, put mascara on without getting it all over my lid. It’s why I usually just wear mascara, clean lid, then maybe a swipe of something. I have thick long-ish lashes, but not outrageously so… I usually take the mascara and wiggle the wand as I apply and apply all the way up. Am I doing it wrong? (Clearly!)

Dear Jessica, I have spent the past week reading most of your articles here in Flesh World and I have to say that I'm in awe. So much of what you have been able to articulate (so well) about the fashion, beauty and skincare world are also things I have been pondering about for the last decade or so.
After reading about your journey quitting your skincare routine, I have been inspired to finally quit my expensive and time-consuming twice-a-day routine (plus putting on makeup, but I'm going to start just with skincare first). I just spend so much time and money trying to fit into a standard of beauty that I don't even agree with, it's making me miserable. However, I also use these routines to ground and calm me, and they give me a sense of control over my appearance that I find hard to quit.
Do you have any advice to help make this transition from skincare to no skincare a little bit smoother? Also, I do work as a recepcionist and feel an extra pressure to look 'good' and 'appropriate', and I don't know how to handle that part. Just wondering also if you have any recommended reading that might help with all of this.
Keep writing about these things, please! I wholeheartedly believe it can change things. Thank you so much!

I thought this was a good analysis. It is a sad state for all of us that our politics, right and left, are about none other than...making fun of how women look.
I work professionally in policy marketing and comms, but I do not look like Hope Hicks or Lindsay Halligan.
But, these are the women we see in media. Trump *understands media very well*-- there are average looking people behind the scenes.
Most of my female colleagues are put-together, nice hair, fashionable and flattering clothes, normal makeup, etc.
The MAGA-Barbie look is a reaction to the last 10-15 years of "beauty inclusivity" and "kill the rich." Its like, "Okay? You hate beauty and you hate wealth? Watch this ---botox and Gucci boots--"
It is also 20% a glitzy Southern/Miami/"new money" thing-- signaling the refined WASPy Bush days are over.
The article could have been more critical of this, "Suzanne Lambert put out a satirical viral video titled “doing my makeup like the gorg maga girlies in my comments,” set to the tune of country star Gretchen Wilson’s “Redneck Woman.” She also mocks shopping at Wal Mart.

Let’s hear it for the boys: Why 2026 could belong to men in beauty

This week’s post is inspired by a conversation I had with a good friend and fellow Substacker, Stixx (Black Boy Beat), and the Sephora x Golden State Warriors partnership news that followed.
For years, beauty has insisted it’s “for everyone,” while quietly signaling who was actually invited to participate. But as we head into 2026, something feels kinda different, especially for men.
