  • For anyone reading, I have to point out that /tmp doesn't go to /dev/null because it is the first argument and /foo is the second. It does so because ls /tmp is valid (prints to stdout), while ls /foo is an error (prints to stderr). Commented May 26, 2024 at 8:14
