  • Quoting variables (even with spaces with paths and metacharacters) is mostly not necessary if you're using Bash's [[...]]. The one exception is the RHS of =, e.g. [[ $VAR = "$VAR" ]]. (This is due to Bash interpreting the RHS as a glob.) Commented Jul 8, 2022 at 16:27
