  • Our Head of Sustainability and Director of Sustainable Urban Renewal, Szue Hann TAN, MBA, MArch, was invited on a panel at the annual Sustainable and Green Finance Institute (SGFIN) Summit on 13th March, held at the Andaz Hotel. SGFIN is the Sustainable and Green Finance Institute at the National University of Singapore.   Moderated by Sa-Pyung Sean Shin, Szue Hann was joined by Professor Johan Sulaeman, Sandra Seah and Anshari Rahman. The conversation centred on whether a net-zero goal would be realistic for ASEAN as a whole and how this would be achievable. Against the backdrop of Singapore's newly-updated nationally determined contributions (NDCs) towards decarbonisation to the UN, Szue Hann shared on Keppel Ltd.'s efforts in decarbonising their portfolio of assets, and in turn, adapting this into both a corporate sustainability strategy as well as an investment thesis for Keppel (Fund Management & Investment)'s managed assets. This is done through a series of considered decisions and selection of appropriate solutions for the reduction of energy use intensity (EUI), which forms the basis for the Keppel Sustainable Urban Renewal (SUR) Fund's ESG strategy. The panel also shared the role of corporate ESG strategy and a well-regulated carbon market in supporting the nation's - and indeed the region's - decarbonisation goals.

In celebration of World Water Day, Keppel is proud to share that we continue to make a positive impact through our Living Well initiative, providing clean water to vulnerable communities.    This year, we expanded our efforts with new solar-powered water filtration systems in the Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces of Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region. We have also launched a new water treatment plant in Kasara Village, Maharashtra, India.   Nguyen Thi Ngoc Han, a secondary school student from Hoa Tien commune, Vietnam, shared, “Saltwater intrusion has significantly impacted our daily lives. Without clean water for domestic use, my parents must travel long distances to buy it. Thanks to the Living Well initiative, we now have access to clean water, and our lives have greatly improved.”   To date, Keppel’s Living Well initiative has benefitted some 97,000 people across Vietnam and India. #WorldWaterDay

  • Last week, our Head of Sustainability and Director of Sustainable Urban Renewal (SUR), Szue Hann TAN, MBA, MArch, was invited as a panelist on the annual Asia Pacific Real Assets Association (APREA) Singapore Conference, for the panel discussion “Navigating the digital frontier with ESG integration”, moderated by Bertrand JABOULEY of S&P Global Ratings.   Sharing on Keppel’s integration of technology with ESG, Hann spoke on the adoption of digital tools in Keppel’s real estate pursuits across our funds and assets. - On the environmental front, digital technologies are adopted in the monitoring and optimisation of assets for higher performance efficiencies and healthy investment returns, referencing the INNO88 Tower, a SUR flagship project, in Seoul. - On the social front, enabling a healthy environment for tenants is performed through the sensing and optimisation of indoor environmental quality, and building social capital through building-wide events, with Keppel Bay Tower as a success story. - On the governance aspect, a Keppel-wide dashboard is employed for the reporting and monitoring of energy and water consumption, which also aids in the reporting of Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions for our real estate fund portfolios.   APREA (www.aprea.asia) is the Asia Pacific Real Assets Association, a leading voice and think tank in the industry, championing value creation in real estate in the region. Keppel has been a keen supporter of APREA, and Hann also sits on the association’s Regional ESG Board.
