A butterfly taught a 4th grader about survival. It started as a 3D-printing lesson — students customizing plain printed butterflies with pens and paint, choosing their own colors and patterns. Then their teacher asked one question: "Where would your butterfly hide?" Suddenly the project wasn't about printing anymore. It was about camouflage, about predators, about why patterns exist in nature. Students started building fairy gardens — not as decoration, but as habitats. Each one a small ecosystem. Each butterfly hidden a different way. Biology, design, ecology, and storytelling — all living inside one butterfly. This is what we mean when we talk about maker-centered learning. Not a craft hour. Not a STEM add-on. A real lesson, with real depth, that a student can hold in their hands. 120+ classroom-ready activities like this on Eddy → https://lnkd.in/ep7amVkz #MakerEducation #HandsOnLearning #STEMEducation
About us
We are edm8ker (pronounced 'edmaker'), a group of edumakers (educators + makers) who are interested in the future of young minds. Our vision is to empower educators to leverage the full potential of maker education, so that every child can have access to a brighter future. edm8ker is a maker-education organization designing hands-on learning systems that help people learn by making—across classrooms, communities, and professional contexts. We support educators and facilitators through practical tools, implementation-focused programs, and experiential methodologies that build confidence, creativity, and real-world skills. Our ecosystem includes Eddy (classroom- and facilitator-ready digital resources) and Makercart (hands-on maker tools), alongside professional development, content creation, and consulting. We work with schools, partners, and communities across Singapore, the U.S., Japan, and beyond. 🔗 Explore our programs and partnerships: https://linktr.ee/edm8ker

Most students see light every day. Almost none of them have ever made it do something. That's the gap. The first time a student completes a circuit and the bulb glows in their hand, they don't walk away knowing that current flows through copper. They walk away knowing that they can make current flow through copper. That's not a science lesson. It's an identity shift — from receiving science to doing it. Today, on the International Day of Light, we're celebrating the teachers who don't just teach light. They hand it to their students and say: make it do something. Teachers don’t need more ideas. They need the time, structure, and materials to actually implement them. That’s where hands-on learning often breaks down—and where Makercart helps close the gap. Sometimes, it’s not a big change. It’s something that rolls into the classroom—and shifts how things begin. Makercart brings together the tools, materials, and structure needed to move from planning to hands-on learning. If you’re exploring ways to make that shift in your classroom, this is a good place to start. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ep7amVkz

Three days. One challenge. Real-world impact. In partnership with DSG Council and EB Impact, this sustainability hackathon brought students into the full process of problem-solving through design thinking. From identifying challenges in their own communities → to building practical solutions → to presenting their ideas to industry partners. What stood out wasn’t just the ideas—it was the process. Students explored, tested, refined, and learned how to take something uncertain and turn it into something meaningful. And in the end, they didn’t just present solutions. They walked away believing they could create change. That’s what hands-on learning is meant to do. What would your students build if given the space to try? #HandsOnLearning #DesignThinking #STEMEducation #Sustainability #edm8ker #Singapore

Across classrooms globally, students are engaging with hands-on learning through Makercart. From Singapore to beyond, students are not just following instructions; they are designing, testing, and iterating their own ideas in real time. The result is not just a finished product, but a deeper understanding of how things work and the confidence to explore further. Makercart, supported by Eddy, provides educators with structured, classroom-ready activities that make this kind of learning accessible and scalable. If you’re looking to bring more hands-on learning into your classroom, this is a starting point. 🔗 Explore the Makercart catalog: https://lnkd.in/ep7amVkz #STEMeducation #MakerEducation #EdTech #HandsOnLearning #K12

Hands-on learning is often where great classroom ideas begin. Making it work consistently is the harder part. Time needs to fit real schedules. Materials have to be accessible. Structure needs to support both teaching and learning. When these pieces aren’t aligned, hands-on learning becomes difficult to sustain. Makercart brings them together — with classroom-ready builds, organized materials, and structured lesson flow that helps educators move from idea to implementation. After school learning can be more than just extra time—it can be hands-on, exploratory, and meaningful. In recent workshops led by Isminur Yilar, edm8ker’s AI Strategist, students engaged in a series of build-based activities: • Spin & Spark (spinning art with circuits) • Marble Run design challenges • Dancing Bots using simple motors • 3D butterfly creations Across each activity, students weren’t just following steps. They were testing ideas, adjusting designs, and learning through iteration. Simple materials. Clear structure. Real thinking. Through Eddy and Makercart, we continue supporting educators with classroom-ready activities that bring this kind of learning into everyday teaching. 🔗 Explore the full activity catalog and get started: https://lnkd.in/ep7amVkz
