𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 For Dr Fan Yan, precision isn’t just about instruments or numbers. It’s about trust. At the A*STAR National Metrology Centre (A*STAR NMC), Dr Fan works on measurement systems that underpin everything from safety standards to the reliability of manufacturing and infrastructure we depend on every day. When she developed NMC’s automated calibration system, the goal wasn’t just efficiency, but more reliable measurements that people and industries can depend on. Her work is a reminder of why measurement science matters. It is often unseen, but accurate and traceable measurements are what allow technology, industry, and standards to be trusted. Beyond the lab, Dr Fan is also a strong advocate for skills and capability building. As the first WSQ-certified adult trainer in her field in Singapore, she has been strengthening how metrology training is delivered and helping the industry improve measurement quality and confidence. Recognised on the SG100 Women in Tech List 2025 and a recipient of the Exemplary SkillsFuture @ Public Service Award 2024, Dr Fan’s journey reflects how precision science quietly supports everyday life and competitiveness. Building trust starts with getting the smallest details right. Find out more about A*STAR NMC's Time and Humidity Lab: https://lnkd.in/g68J2AxZ #FacesofASTAR #WMD2026 #Metrology #WomeninScience

We’re pleased to see research co-authored by Michelle Kee from A*STAR Institute for Human Development and Potential (A*STAR IHDP) featured in 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘓𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘵, highlighting the often-overlooked role fathers play in shaping health outcomes — even before pregnancy begins. The review brings together global evidence showing how men’s health, life experiences, and wellbeing can influence not only their own outcomes, but also those of their partners and children across the life course. In Singapore, this is an area where local research is growing. Studies such as SG‑LEADS, a nationally representative study tracking over 5,000 children, provide insights into how family environments and early parental involvement shape child development. Findings from SG‑LEADS further show that early paternal involvement is linked to stronger cognitive outcomes, fewer behavioural challenges, and more positive family dynamics, reinforcing the importance of supporting fathers as part of the broader ecosystem of care. As Singapore continues to strengthen support for families, it’s a reminder that raising healthy children is a shared journey from the very beginning. #EnhancingLives #ResearchExcellence #ChildDevelopment #FamilyHealth #ASTARforSG
We are pleased to share a new publication in The Lancet Group, titled “More equitable preconception health: paternal life course opportunities for better pregnancy, child, and family outcomes”. The article was co-authored by Jonathan Huang (University of Hawaii at Manoa), Michelle Kee (A*STAR Institute for Human Development and Potential (A*STAR IHDP)), and Gerard Chung (NUS Department of Social Work), alongside an international team of collaborators. Preparing for parenthood doesn't start when the pregnancy test turns positive. This review of research shows a young man's early life experiences, mental health, and stress shape both his own and his partner's wellbeing well before conception. As Singapore grapples with falling birth rates and the weight of modern parenting, it's time we stopped placing the entire load on mothers-to-be. Healthy, supported young men are part of the equation too. This transdisciplinary review brings together biological and social science research to show how young men’s early life course experiences influence not only their own health, but also that of their partner’s and children. 🔗 Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gHAbq3QY NUS Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁 Congratulations to the SITEM team from A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (A*STAR IHPC) on receiving the Science, Technology and Engineering Innovation Challenge (STE IC) Distinguished Award, presented by Minister of National Development Hong Tat Chee at STE:Fest 2026! SITEM is Singapore’s first integrated, high‑fidelity modelling and simulation platform designed to support EV infrastructure planning, bringing together transport demand, charging behaviour and the electricity grid in a single environment. As Singapore transitions towards electric vehicles, one of the key challenges is how to plan charging infrastructure and grid upgrades in a coordinated way, taking into account how people actually move and charge across the city. SITEM is already being used to support planning and policymaking discussions across agencies, helping to bring transport and energy considerations together. Through integrated modelling, SITEM supports a more coordinated, data-driven approach to planning Singapore’s EV transition. #CreatingGrowth #Sustainability #ElectricVehicles #Innovation #ASTARforSG
