\$\begingroup\$ Thanks so much for the additional information regarding my example. I am the (rather inexperienced) DM in this case. A player has just acquired a mount and I want to make sure I run mounted combat properly. I'm not yet sure whether I will allow the mount and PC to intersperse their actions. \$\endgroup\$

\$\begingroup\$ @mdrichey The reason I do when I DM is because I think it is easier and more natural not having to keep track of when the horse and player goes. Many players I find assume that it works with turns interspersed so I also feel it reduces confusion and time spent at the table. \$\endgroup\$
