Program integrity leads to better outcomes for people.|Better outcomes build trust in government.|Trust in government supports a healthy democracy.

Our mission is to strengthen integrity in government through data, evidence, and collaboration.

How we define program integrity.

Program integrity in government is a system of laws, policies, practices,  tools, and collaboration that safeguards taxpayer resources from fraud, corruption, waste, and abuse.

It relies on a multi-sector approach that ultimately supports government to effectively and efficiently deliver policy outcomes for individuals, businesses, and communities.

Technology and data are critical drivers of program integrity, and in particular, activities to prevent, detect, and respond to improper payments and fraud.

The U.S. federal government loses an estimated $233 billion to $521 billion to fraud annually. Since 2003, estimates of improper payments—those with incorrect amounts or that shouldn’t have been made—amount to $2.8 trillion.

On the low end, this fraud loss estimate is equal to funding for:

million students' education for one year (2021), OR...

times the federal spending on roads (2022), OR...

million veterans' disability benefits for a year (2023), Etc.

How we address this challenge matters.

Trust in government is essential for a healthy democracy. When it erodes, so does confidence in public institutions. Improper payments, including fraud, accelerate this decline and undermine the systems meant to serve the public.

We believe in better use of evidence and data as core drivers for improving program integrity and preventing fraud. We recognize that program integrity is a team effort that relies on diverse voices and expertise to shape non-partisan, long-term solutions.
