Aug 9, 2023 at 16:24 comment added ACuriousMind Mod @ZeroTheHero I think we might give an update once a concrete new policy on how to handle computer-generated content is public; right now all I can say is that I'm personally cautiously optimistic.

Jun 10, 2023 at 10:28 comment added Amit @Mazura I think that regardless of someone being an expert or a non expert he can make the decision whether to vote on a topic that he knows nothing about. Everyone is susceptible to voting from the wrong motives, that's a human thing, not related to expertise
Jun 10, 2023 at 2:04 comment added Ghoster This is now the highest-voted post on Physics Meta.
Jun 9, 2023 at 1:36 comment added Mazura That's the mistake they realized. I've never played with it because it wants a phone number which is out of the effing question. If there was Ask GPT (which there will be, that I can sign up with a BS email account just like SE) then who needs SE? At some point it won't be wrong anymore and that's when SE ends... but not if it's with it the whole time growing up.
Jun 9, 2023 at 1:31 comment added ZeroTheHero @Mazura I’m willing to bet users pasting GPT answers won’t engage with the site the way human users do: if it’s so easy to get an answer from GPT and post it on SE, it’s equally easy for posters to directly query GPT and get their answers directly from there.
Jun 9, 2023 at 1:26 comment added Mazura .... assuming that's where it belongs. That should be up to us, but some of us are idiots. There's no "fix" for this. There's let's keep making money somehow ... : We are graduating the updated button styling for vote arrows so that it looks better on mobile, because anyone using an actual computer has an ad blocker on it and we don't make any money, so screw them.
Jun 9, 2023 at 1:10 comment added Mazura The company knows that this site will die if it doesn't encourage new users. They don't care about people who quit out of spite, nor those who stick around anyway and just put I'm angry tacked onto their name. I think disallowing GPT was a mistake. If any Q&A site on the net was already equipped to handle it, it was SE. I still haven't seen anything anywhere here from GPT. Now there's all sorts of BS Qs going around that mods would've hammered, from humans. Really, all it does it point out the fail of SE which is any idiot can vote. If only "experts" could, gpt would all go in the garbage
Jun 8, 2023 at 12:00 comment added ZeroTheHero @Mazura … as opposed to doing nothing: that will change the situation. The company needs to know the new policy is flawed, wether they change it or not.
Jun 8, 2023 at 4:07 comment added Mazura "please consider downvoting the new network policy" - if you think that would do anything then you haven't been paying attention.

Jun 2, 2023 at 13:25 comment added rob Mod @kludg There are other websites where humans can ask questions and get computer-generated answers. If the answers are memorable or valuable, there are other websites where they can be shared. Likewise there are other websites where people can ask about bicycle maintenance, or about parenting advice, or about how Tibby is dealing with her time in hospice. We don't do any of those things here; we are not the entire internet. (But since it came up, Tibby is in excellent spirits, and loves visitors and phone calls, even though they make her tired.)
Jun 2, 2023 at 12:23 comment added A. B. @kludg It looks like, this specific posting is talking about undisclosed use of AI.
Jun 2, 2023 at 8:57 comment added kludg Maybe soon humans will be allowed to ask questions only, to be answered by AI.
Jun 2, 2023 at 5:15 comment added user28424 @Ghoster need more than 101 rep to downvote, so vast majority of the users, including those with very high rep on other sires, can't downvote. On the other hand, anyone with as little as 200 rep in one site can upvote. If everyone could downvote, I'm pretty certain is was around -10000 by now. That said, I might start there a feature request to allow downvoting official posts like that even with less than the required reputation. :)
Jun 2, 2023 at 2:20 comment added Chris Mod @Ghoster The visibility is not great since it doesn't appear on the front page once the score gets too low. The cynical part of me wonders if this is a strategy to reduce the blowback a bit.
Jun 2, 2023 at 2:06 comment added Jon Custer @Ghoster - very few participate on the mother Meta. I read but not much more for example.
Jun 2, 2023 at 0:22 comment added Ghoster Fellow members: If you upvote this, please consider downvoting the new network policy. I am astonished that the net vote is not more negative than -163.

Jun 1, 2023 at 21:11 comment added Starship I propose going on strike for a day. SE needs to see that it needs its community and not just AI
Jun 1, 2023 at 20:38 comment added ZeroTheHero I don't quite understand why this needs to be a system-wide policy rather than a specific subsite policy.
