So then the stuff I provided isn't accurate? The comment at the end mentioned a collection of "highly inaccurate cultural beliefs" but I have no idea what that could mean. I'm also not sure what there not being a self would mean per se.BoltStorm– BoltStorm2026-01-31 07:20:44 +00:00Commented yesterday

@BoltStorm: I would say the fact that you have no idea what your friend means in this case is because they are, simply, confused. No, their claims are not accurate.keshlam– keshlam2026-01-31 14:21:30 +00:00Commented 21 hours ago

@BoltStorm, Your friend's supposed "claims" are not only not accurate, but are nothing more than unsubstantiated, pessimistic personal opinion. There is no objective science behind any of them, so don't let it drag you down. If the self didn't exist we wouldn't have the society we have, "science" as a thing would not even exist, and you wouldn't have asked the question because you'd just be sitting there processing food into poop.Michael Hall– Michael Hall2026-01-31 17:56:11 +00:00Commented 18 hours ago

@MichaelHall Well the arguments I got from him is that it's a story and that you can survive without a story and he made the argument that infants don't have a narrative,BoltStorm– BoltStorm2026-01-31 19:05:21 +00:00Commented 17 hours ago

1@MichaelHall I don't think I said he was my friend but you might be right. He seems too certain of science being able to answer every question when science tends to raise more questions than it answers.BoltStorm– BoltStorm2026-02-01 05:36:48 +00:00Commented 6 hours ago

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. philosophy-of-science), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
