8Doing this too much replaces the trolley problem with a troll problem.Misha Lavrov– Misha Lavrov2026-01-21 20:56:18 +00:00Commented Jan 21 at 20:56

1I have an animated gif on my desktop computer showing a solution to the problem revealing nobody has to die. If the switch is thrown just so, the trolley stops.Joshua– Joshua2026-01-21 22:15:09 +00:00Commented Jan 21 at 22:15

@keshlam: Yeah that's the problem with trying it in miniature; it didn't derail when it would be expected to be. But it should stay upright, which means the expected number of deaths is still zero.Joshua– Joshua2026-01-22 03:55:29 +00:00Commented Jan 22 at 3:55

Doing what too much? Encouraging people to question the implicit premises of situations? Advocating action? "Trolling" is posting stuff just to get an cheap thrill from people's emotional reactions. Me, I want people to take this seriously. I guess upvoting one of a couple instances of a perfectly fine bit of word play is one way for people to deal with it.JonathanZ– JonathanZ2026-01-23 01:34:10 +00:00Commented Jan 23 at 1:34

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. philosophy-of-science), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
