— Are you looking for new opportunities in global development? Check out the latest edition of Devex Jobs Alert, your weekly guide to the most active employers and expert career advice from the world’s largest development job board. In this week’s issue: 🌍 After the cuts: The lasting toll on aid workers. One year after the collapse of USAID, most displaced professionals remain unemployed, underemployed, or earning significantly less. The survey highlights not only financial hardship, but a deeper sense of grief as many mourn the loss of mission-driven careers and communities. Prolonged job searches, ageism, and a saturated market have made reentry difficult across experience levels. At the same time, mental health challenges and loss of identity continue to weigh heavily on affected workers. 💼 Navigating today’s challenging development job market. In a highly competitive sector, setbacks are rarely personal — budget shifts, donor cycles, and organizational changes often drive hiring decisions. Kelsi Kriitmaa, PhD and Jack Jarrett advise treating rejection as data to refine applications and build relationships with hiring managers. Professionals are encouraged to focus on what they can control: strengthening transferable skills, targeting roles that fit their expertise, and networking intentionally across multiple platforms. Prioritizing quality over quantity in applications allows for thoughtful follow-up and better outcomes. Share your feedback with us in the comments!

A hybrid approach is beginning to address these challenges. In Lagos, digital health tools are being combined with community-based support and real-time patient feedback to improve continuity of care and strengthen accountability across the health system.
