PALS acknowledges that we are gathered today on Treaty 6 Territory, the traditional gathering place and home of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, Métis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux peoples. We honour and respect the many diverse First Nations, Inuit, and Métis whose footsteps have marked this land for centuries. As an organization dedicated to literacy, we recognize that access to education and language has been deeply affected by colonization, and that many Indigenous peoples were denied the right to learn, speak, and pass on their languages. We believe literacy is a vital part of healing, empowerment, and reconciliation, and we commit to fostering learning as a pathway to inclusion and continued opportunity.
