Tata Consultancy Services has partnered with Norwegian research giant SINTEF to develop AI-driven innovations aimed at improving elderly care through Social AI. The collaboration will build on SINTEF’s eHealth platform, SMILE, which helps senior citizens live independently and stay connected with caregivers, families, and communities. The initiative combines TCS’s expertise in AI and digital transformation with SINTEF’s deep research capabilities to create scalable, real-world solutions for inclusive healthcare. Alexandra Bech Gjørv, president and CEO of SINTEF, said, “Rooted in the heritage of the world-renowned Tata Group, we recognise TCS’ ambition in creating long term value for its clients, employees, and the community at large. SINTEF shares similar values, and I believe that together, we can improve the quality of life and help the elderly in Norway to be able to stay healthy, in the comfort of their homes much longer.” Sapthagiri Chapalapalli, head of Europe at TCS, highlighted the partnership’s human-centric approach, saying, “Together with SINTEF, the identification of specific, practical AI use cases that address real business challenges focusing into usability and human-centric approach will come full circle.” With this collaboration, TCS aims to bring scale, speed, and digital depth to SINTEF’s innovation efforts, paving the way for smarter, more compassionate healthcare systems across Europe.

The AI Act is an opportunity for Swedish healthcare to take global leadership! In two years, the EU's AI Act will come fully into effect, and now is the time to act! As a leader in innovative technology, I see both challenges and enormous opportunities for Swedish healthcare.   We are in a critical period where innovation meets regulation. Despite AI's potential to revolutionize healthcare - from improved diagnostics to more efficient administrative processes - the current situation shows a worrying passivity. Only 13% of Swedish AI initiatives in healthcare are fully implemented, and the geographical differences are significant.   August 2027 is more than just a deadline - it's a unique opportunity for Sweden to position itself globally. We can develop AI systems that not only meet strict regulatory requirements but also create real value by saving money, saving more lives, and freeing up healthcare personnel's time for what matters most - the patients.   The challenge lies in balancing innovation with ethical considerations, ensuring patient safety, and creating AI solutions that are both technically advanced and humanly responsible.   Are we ready to take the step and lead the development? Three Emerging Roles in AI: Assistants, Agents, and Guardians As AI systems evolve, so does their level of autonomy and responsibility. We can now distinguish three key categories shaping the future of intelligent automation: AI Assistants, AI Agents, and Guardian Agents. AI Assistants These are reactive tools. They require explicit user input for every task—think of them as helpful but passive co-pilots. They support users efficiently, but only after receiving a specific prompt. AI Agents AI agents go a step further. Once initialized, they operate autonomously, much like digital employees. They are capable of executing complex tasks: analyzing large datasets, planning sales campaigns, or proactively identifying and closing process gaps. In multi-agent systems, these agents can even communicate and collaborate with one another to achieve shared goals. Guardian Agents A new frontier in AI, guardian agents act autonomously—but with a mission beyond execution. They oversee and manage other AI systems, ensuring integrity, transparency, and compliance. These agents monitor actions, evaluate outcomes, and can intervene—blocking or redirecting behaviors to avoid unintended consequences. They combine deterministic control with adaptive AI decision-making and are crucial for building trustworthy AI ecosystems. According to Gartner, 24% of companies are already experimenting with agent-based systems. Let's learn from the Nordics as they are frontrunners in data availability. Higher quality care and more efficient health services – this is how Kanta-Häme built a state-of-the-art data platform in six months. An aging population, increasing need for care, and a shrinking workforce, combined with decreasing funding, are creating challenges for public social services and healthcare providers across Europe. The Finnish wellbeing services county of @Kanta-Häme has taken a bold leap towards data-driven management and a better customer experience in healthcare and social services with the help of Microsoft Azure. Located in Southern Finland, Kanta-Häme wellbeing services county provides services to close to 170,000 residents. We are pleased to announce that the first draft demo of our comparable clinical entity recognition systems is now online and can also process medical texts in Swedish. This resource was developed as part of the DataTools4Heart Project The demo automatically extracts mentions of diseases, symptoms, procedures, and medications from clinical texts written in Swedish. The models were trained on a subset of a comparable multilingual clinical corpus covering seven languages. Following the benchmarking of more than 124 models developed within the DataTools4Heart project, the best-performing systems for each language and entity type will be publicly released. To ensure transparent and standardized evaluation, a model leaderboard will also be published, reporting performance using precision, recall, and F-score.
