Daniel highlighted a crucial gap in Sweden’s energy strategy: "The government has promised to invest in new electricity production, but there's still no plan for flexibility or smarter energy use. 📣 We’re on the front page of Dagens Nyheter – Sweden’s largest daily newspaper – talking about one of the most important energy shifts happening across Europe: power-based tariffs (also known as effect tariffs). What does that mean for consumers? More and more households are being charged not just for how much energy they use – but when and how fast. This shift is meant to ease pressure on local grids, but it can also drive up costs if households don’t have the right tools. In a recent story on Sweden’s national broadcaster SVT, Tibber customer Petter Norman shared how he tackled rising grid fees with smart tech. When power-based tariffs from one of Sweden's largest grid providers Ellevio added 1000 SEK/month (€90) to Petter's electricity bill, he – like many families – found it hard to shift his usage to nights or mid-days (in January, the provider began billing based on an average of a customer's three highest consumption hours per month). Petter's answer? A Homevolt battery connected to solar panels, managed with Tibber. Now he stores energy and avoids costly peaks – without changing his daily routine.
