Compact, powerful, and built for reliability: the Control & Data Processing Unit (CDPU) bridges the gap between payload and satellite platform. Together with NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre and supported by the Netherlands Space Agency - NLSA, we developed an advanced Instrument Control Unit (ICU) tailored for SmallSat missions. The CDPU enables secure payload integration and efficient on-board data processing: key for mission success. Within the NXTGEN Hightech “(nano) Metrology Systems” project, we are tackling exactly this challenge together with Delmic, Nearfield Instruments, ARCNL, and Delft University of Technology. What started as deep exploration of physical principles with our academic partners is now clearly evolving toward validation, integration, and real-world applicability. What makes this collaboration stand out is how we connect disciplines: 🔹 Fundamental research & modeling 🔹 High-tech instrumentation 🔹 System integration & data intelligence At Technolution Advance, we play a key role at the system level, bringing these domains together. From data acquisition and real-time control to extracting meaningful insights, we help turn complex measurement principles into scalable solutions. The result? Non-destructive 3D metrology that moves beyond the lab and into industrial reality, opening up opportunities in semiconductors and beyond, including life sciences and pharma.   • 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 On March 3th and 4th, we attended the Amsterdam Space Symposium, where the space community discussed how space technology contributes to challenges on Earth, from security and defence to Earth observation and climate monitoring. For Technolution, the event highlighted a key theme for Europe’s space sector: trusted and sovereign space capabilities. Some of our highlights: 𝗘𝗦𝗔 𝗭𝗲𝗿𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 At the NLR - Netherlands Aerospace Centre organised session, Theo Tieman signed the Zero Debris Charter on behalf of Technolution. The European Space Agency - ESA initiative aims to achieve a Zero Debris future by 2030, reinforcing responsible system design and sustainable space operations. 𝗣𝗡𝗧 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 Our colleague Gerard Rauwerda joined the panel on Dual-Use Applications in Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT). The discussion highlighted how trusted and resilient PNT is becoming a strategic capability for Europe, supporting defence, security and critical infrastructure. 𝗙𝘂𝗹𝗹-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘀𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼 At our booth, visitors played our “Space Invaders” demo. What looks like a retro arcade game actually runs on Technolution’s FreNox RISC-V processor System-on-Chip, implemented on European radiation-hardened FPGA technology from NanoXplore. The demo shows that full-stack European space technology is already possible, from processor architecture to space-qualified hardware and system integration. At the booth we also showcased our on-board Control & Data Processing electronics and high-assurance data encryption, which sparked inspiring discussions on trusted on-board processing and secure data handling for resilient space systems. Our “Space Invaders” demonstration runs entirely on Technolution’s FreNox RISC V processor system on chip, implemented in European radiation hardened FPGA technology from NanoXplore SAS. What looks like a retro arcade game is in fact a fully functional embedded space grade processing platform. The system demonstrates that our RISC-V International based system on chip can be realised on European rad hard FPGA technology, enabling secure and independent solutions for space applications. This is more than a demo. It is a tangible example of European technological sovereignty across the stack, from processor architecture to space qualified hardware and system integration. On the day preceding the Amsterdam Space Symposium , Technolution will participate in Space4Defence, organised by Netherlands Industries for Defence & Security, bringing together European stakeholders in space and defence. As Europe strengthens its strategic autonomy, sovereignty must extend beyond platforms and policy. It starts at the architectural level; in the processor, the embedded system, and the signal processing chain that enable mission-critical capability. Technolution develops trusted processing platforms, including on-board instrument control electronics. Our expertise spans deterministic real-time embedded systems, fault-tolerant designs, and resilient terrestrial PNT processing for high-assurance defence environments. We act as a development partner and (sub)system integrator, supporting primes and system integrators from architecture definition and detailed design through verification, qualification and full life-cycle support. By combining architectural control, secure development practices and controlled supply chains, we enable sovereign, vendor-independent processing platforms for both civil and defence programmes. Next week, our colleague Gerard Rauwerda will join the panel discussion on Dual Use Applications in Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) at the Amsterdam Space Symposium. PNT is often seen as a technical building block. In reality, it is a strategic capability. From defence and security to critical infrastructure and mobility, resilient and trusted PNT underpins our society. The key question is no longer whether we need PNT, but how we ensure it is secure, robust and sovereign. For Europe and the Netherlands, this means investing in trusted technology, controlled supply chains and high assurance system design across the entire value chain.
