    Can investment decrease the wage premium? The aim of this study is to analyse the
    dynamic relationship between different investment types (FDI & DI), and wages. While
    many studies only focus on one investment, primarily FDI, this study will instead put
    both investment types in comparison. A panel VAR model with impulse responses is
    employed to analyse the dynamic relationship and a Dynamic Panel System GMM
    Estimator serves as a control. Three databases are combined for this…

    Can investment decrease the wage premium? The aim of this study is to analyse the
    dynamic relationship between different investment types (FDI & DI), and wages. While
    many studies only focus on one investment, primarily FDI, this study will instead put
    both investment types in comparison. A panel VAR model with impulse responses is
    employed to analyse the dynamic relationship and a Dynamic Panel System GMM
    Estimator serves as a control. Three databases are combined for this analysis: OECD
    Stan, Penn World Tables (PWT) and the WIOD Tables, resulting in a sample of 24
    OECD countries covering 10 industries over the period from 1995 to 2009. The main
    finding is that DI is more effective than FDI in increasing productivity growth, economic
    growth and wages, and most importantly, decreasing the wage premium. The significance
    lies in that DI increases the wages of medium-skilled and low-skilled labour more than
    the wages of high-skilled labour.
