🚢 At the heart of every great ship is a vision. For the Sea Ranger Service, that vision was a vessel built not just for exploration but for impact - to support ocean conservation while minimising its ecological footprint. And to make it a reality, we partnered with @Dykstra Naval Architects. From brainstorming the earliest ideas to delivering precise calculations and drawings, Dykstra Naval Architects played a crucial role in bringing our ship to life. Their expertise helped convert an existing fast-cruising hull into a purpose-built sailing vessel, ensuring it was fuel-efficient, weight-optimised, and ready for rigorous environmental missions. 🔹 What makes this ship special? ✔ Fuel-saving design – a slender, easily driven hull and a sailing performance-focused rig. ✔ Minimalist, functional interiors – a "less is more" approach kept weight in check. ✔ Sustainable materials – no hardwood, high-tensile steel hull, and aluminium spars. ✔ Built for impact – for marine conservation and hands-on training of young Sea Rangers. 💬 As Gerard Dijkstra himself puts it: "The Sea Ranger’s new vessel is making a significant contribution for a greener future - not just through the work it will undertake, but through the example it sets. Equally important is the ship’s role in training and empowering young crews as part of the Sea Ranger Service’s mission. This blend of sustainability, innovation, and social impact has been at the core of Dykstra Naval Architects' ethos for over 50 years." This ship is just the beginning. With each step, we’re proving that sailing technology and sustainability can go hand in hand. . . . #GoSeaRangers #SustainableSailing #MaritimeInnovation #OceanConservation #SustainableShipbuilding #ClimateAction #SDG14 #LifeBelowWater #Shipbuilding #BlueEconomy #NavalArchitecture #Dykstra #DykstraNavalArchitects 📸: The Sea Ranger Service/@Zeevonk Media

🚢 Building a ship that can brave the seas while training the next generation of maritime professionals takes true craftsmanship. That’s why we partnered with Seldén Mast AB , one of the world’s leading rigging specialists, to equip our new ship with custom-built masts, booms, and rigging - designed specifically for the needs of the Sea Ranger Service. 🏗️ What went into this collaboration? Tailor-made design: The masts were built to fit an existing hull, making this a one-off project requiring meticulous craftsmanship. Built for performance: Lightweight aluminium masts and stainless steel rigging ensure strength without compromising sailing efficiency. Designed for hard work: Unlike luxury yachts, our ship needed manual winches and custom brackets, ensuring our crew can handle the elements with skill and resilience. 💬 “The Seldén team was truly inspired by the work of the Sea Ranger Service. Throughout the process, we experienced excellent collaboration,” says Seldén’s Ben Van Dullemen. A huge thank you to Seldén Mast for their expertise and commitment to our vision. 🚢 Sails are more than just fabric catching the wind - they’re precision-engineered tools designed for efficiency, durability, and sustainability. For our new ship, UB Sails and Contender Sailcloth worked together to create sails that balance performance with resilience, ensuring that our vessel can navigate the seas with minimal environmental impact. So, how does the process work? 🔹 Step 1: Designing for purpose – the sail shape and structure were developed with input from the ship designer, mast makers, and the Sea Ranger Service’s team, ensuring they met our needs, including easy handling for Sea Rangers. 🔹 Step 2: Selecting materials – Contender Sailcloth analysed the ship’s sailing conditions, usage, and required durability to recommend strong, repairable, and long-lasting fabrics. 🔹 Step 3: Precision crafting – after approval, the sailcloth was laser-cut into panels, stitched, reinforced, and finished with key elements like battens and trim stripes before being assembled. 🔹 Step 4: A perfect fit – The final product is a set of high-performance sails built to withstand the test of time, reducing waste and ensuring sustainable operations for years to come. This process showcases a story of collaboration, expertise, and a shared vision for a cleaner maritime industry. 💬 UB Sails’ Patrick van de Walle says: “We were drawn to the Sea Ranger Service for its strong environmental mission and commitment to training the next generation of maritime professionals. By combining our expertise, we create something truly impactful.” Huge thanks to UB Sails and Contender Sailcloth for bringing this project to life. We are proud to have a ship equipped for the future - built to serve both our mission and the ocean. . . . #GoSeaRangers #SustainableSailing #MaritimeInnovation #Sailmaking #UBSails #OceanConservation #SustainableShipbuilding #ClimateAction #SDG14 #LifeBelowWater #Shipbuilding #BlueEconomy #contendersailcloth #gotheextramile 📸: The Sea Ranger Service/Zeevonk Media 📸: UB Sails UB Sails: https://www.ubsails.nl/

🚢 When it came to preparing our new ship for life at sea, we knew every layer of paint mattered. That’s why we partnered with AkzoNobel, whose expertise in marine protective and yacht coatings has helped protect ships in some of the world’s toughest waters. Together, we took a thorough look at the ship’s existing coatings and devised a plan to apply high-performance, future-proof paints. 🔹 Below the waterline, the ship is now coated with a biocide-free antifouling - an innovation designed to protect the hull without harming marine life. 🔹 Above the waterline, AkzoNobel’s premium brand Awlgrip gives the ship a durable, UV-resistant shine - ready for long days on the water. 🔹 And for the decks, Interthane 990 provides a safe surface for the Sea Rangers working onboard. 💬 "Partnering with the Sea Ranger Service allows us to support young people protecting the ocean, while we learn what matters most to the next generation of sea fearers and develop future-proof coatings to match," – says AkzoNobel’s Sissy Traa-de Groot. As our ship sails and Sea Rangers work on ocean conservation missions, the data we gather will feed back into AkzoNobel’s research, helping shape the next generation of sustainable coatings. We’re proud to work with partners who share our belief that protecting the ocean starts with bold action today. . . . #GoSeaRangers #SustainableSailing #MaritimeInnovation #Sailmaking #OceanConservation #SustainableShipbuilding #ClimateAction #SDG14 #LifeBelowWater #Shipbuilding #BlueEconomy #AkzoNobel 📸: The Sea Ranger Service/Zeevonk Media 📸: AkzoNobel
