  • Return is heading to The Battery Show Europe 2026. From 9–11 June 2026, we’ll be in Stuttgart for The Battery Show Europe, the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo and the Energy Storage Summit. As a guest speaker, our colleague is looking forward to sharing insights on the latest developments in energy storage, BESS and grid flexibility, while connecting with key players across the renewable energy sector. The energy transition needs smart storage, strong partnerships and conversations that move the industry forward. Will you be there too? Event: https://lnkd.in/dvHu-BSx Feel free to reach out and connect with us in Stuttgart. #EnergyTransition #SustainabilityPartnerships #Networking #GreenEnergy

  • Yesterday, we welcomed nearly 300 guests to Theater Amsterdam for Return’s stakeholder event: Making Clean Energy Wonderfully Boring Again. A day filled with honest conversations and practical perspectives, from investors and grid operators to energy providers, partners and customers. One message kept returning: the direction is clear. The next step is making it work. Less complexity. Less endless piloting. More action. At Return, we believe progress in the energy transition happens when we connect the right people, strengthen relationships and remove barriers between stakeholders. A special thank you to our guest speakers Bart Saenen, CFA (APG), Diederik Samsom, Emma Gerritse (Stedin), Martin Daronnat (ENGIE), Erik Suichies (Vattenfall) and Gerard Reid for sharing their perspectives and insights. And of course, a big thank you to the entire Return team for making this event possible. Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared perspectives and contributed to the conversation. We’re looking forward to building the next chapter together. Making clean energy work for everyone.

Our 100MW flexibility agreement in Germany got noticed and for good reason. The Return / ENGIE partnership won Deal of the Year at the 2026 Energy Risk Awards. On paper, this is an award for a single deal. In reality, it signals something bigger: structures like this are becoming repeatable. What makes it work is not complexity, but the opposite; turning something highly complex into something structured, predictable and scalable enough to be used again. As one of the ENGIE team put it: making complexity boringly simple and risks properly managed. That 'boring' part is intentional. Energy systems don’t win on excitement, they win on reliability. And reliability only exists when complexity is no longer the limiting factor. This is why we don’t see this as a one-off. It’s a model that can be repeated as flexibility markets mature across Europe. Thanks to the ENGIE and Return teams and especially Martin Daronnat and Flip van der Weijden for building this together. • A new battery storage site is taking shape in Brietlingen Last Friday, May 8, we officially kicked off construction of our battery storage site in Brietlingen (Lower Saxony), together with the municipality. The system will store surplus wind and solar energy and feed it back into the grid when demand increases, helping to reduce grid bottlenecks, improve stability and make better use of renewable energy. A big thank you to the municipality of Brietlingen and all partners involved for the strong collaboration. As Jens Peters, Managing Director at Return, puts it: “The Brietlingen facility is an important milestone for our work in northern Germany and another step in expanding battery storage capacity across the country.” Location: Brietlingen, Lower Saxony Capacity: 13 MW | 29 MWh Live: planned for November 2026 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e4reVKJ8

  • A new energy initiative in Laichingen Our Munich and Hamburg team is working with the city of Laichingen on a large-scale battery storage system. Selected through a transparent process with endura kommunal GmbH, this initiative stands out for its community-driven approach: local landowners pooled their land and the municipality ensures shared benefits. The battery storage system will be delivered in two phases: > Phase I: 75 MW / 300 MWh: connected to NetzeBW’s 110 kV grid > Phase II: 500 MW / 2,000 MWh: technical studies with TransnetBW complete Once operational, it will be one of Germany’s largest battery storage systems, helping balance the grid as renewables grow. At Return, we’re committed for the long term, ensuring these systems support the grid and community for years to come. Making clean energy work for everyone. #EnergyStorage #BESS #GridFlexibility

Milestone for Mufasa in Vlissingen: all 96 transformers are now in place. All medium-voltage transformers have now been positioned on site. Installation will follow in the next phase. They form a critical link in the system: once operational, they will convert the energy from the Tesla Energy Megapack 2XL batteries preparing it for the TenneT grid, making renewable energy available at the right place, at the right time. Why is this important? Grid congestion remains a major challenge. Mufasa contributes to the solution by storing renewable energy and deploying it flexibly, helping to relieve pressure on the grid. This supports faster grid connections for new projects and improves the reliability of clean energy. Construction on site continues: all foundations for the Megapacks are now complete. Cable installation is well underway, with the final phase, connecting to the TenneT grid, coming up next. Making clean energy work for everyone. #EnergyTransition #GridCongestion #BESS

Last week, we attended the Havencongres Rotterdam. Many conversations, many perspectives with one clear common thread: The port is on the verge of large-scale electrification, yet the infrastructure isn’t ready to support it. What stood out was the strong focus on growth: increasing the intake of renewable energy, expanding industrial activity and strengthening the port’s strategic role. At the same time, it became clear that execution is increasingly constrained by infrastructure limitations and the pace of decision-making. This directly impacts the role of storage (BESS). 𝗜𝘁‘𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀. 𝗜𝘁‘𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗱. To create system coherence. To help prevent additional grid congestion. The challenge lies not in the aspiration, but in the system meant to support it.
