It's Peanuts, the new brand campaign directed by Anthony Farquhar-Smith for National Peanut Board and Special U.S. The decision early on to centre peanuts literally as well as metaphorically was integral to the making of these films, as this meant all other elements would be miniscule. From printing the characters to using specialist cameras and lenses on the shoot, working at such a tiny scale was something new for the whole crew, a chance to go absolutely massive on going small. Presenting It’s Not Nuts. It’s Peanuts, the brand campaign focused on getting the underrated legumes the hype they deserve 🔥 Directed by Anthony Farquhar-Smith, the new campaign from the National Peanut Board and Special U.S. recasts peanuts as a modern American essential, putting them slap-bang at the centre of culture in a series of surreal miniature stop motion films and OOH stills. First up, the 30s follows six intrepid friends extolling the health virtues of peanuts as they engage in activities like shell climbing and smoothie spas. Double triple dare you not to be humming this for the rest of the day. 🌭 From Ronda comes Ronda de Canciones, a series based on the purest creativity of all – a child’s daydreams. The project began life with spontaneous recordings of children plucking out words and notes to amuse themselves, in the car, at the park or at home. These improvised ditties were then edited by Ronda, who carefully identified the tempo and tonality in their phrases and cut them into the charming songs that drive the films’ narrative. Each film has its own distinctive animation style, with the studio embracing the opportunity to play and experiment, employing their diverse skillset in 2D and 3D while chasing the feeling of childlike wonder and fun. The funny and absurdist “Las Salchichas” just might be our favourite of the bunch.
