Looking back on a successful edition of SmallSat Europe! Beyond the many valuable conversations with industry peers, our colleague Gus van der Feltz contributed to an insightful panel discussion on standards for laser satellite communications. The discussion highlighted the important role of standardization in accelerating technology adoption, fostering interoperability, and supporting the growth of the optical communications market. FSO Instruments is now preparing for ScyLight 2026 hosted by European Space Agency - ESA in Tenerife from 2–4 June 2026. Together with Laser Delta (by TNO), we look forward to engaging with Europe’s optical communications community and showcasing our capabilities in laser satellite communications. See you in Tenerife!

Over ons

Fast laser communication for small satellites is here. Check out AAC Clyde Space and their CubeCAT terminal. Great technology, space proven! Made by FSO Instruments, with TNO technology inside.
High-speed space communications are moving beyond concept and into orbit. AAC Clyde Space’s CubeCAT laser communication terminal enables CubeSats to downlink data at speeds of up to 1 Gbps, using optical communications to unlock faster, more secure and more efficient mission data delivery. Compact, flight-ready, and built for small satellite platforms, CubeCAT reduces reliance on congested RF spectrum and supports the growing demand for high-volume Earth observation and space-based services. Now in orbit, CubeCAT is helping demonstrate the next step in small satellite communications — where more data gets back to Earth, faster. Great discussion today at SmallSat Europe with Cailabs , Kepler Communications Inc., TESAT , Mynaric and FSO Instruments on standards for laser satellite communication and how these support wide adoption of the technology and help grow the market for all. Thanks Victor Aguero for moderating the panel and fellow panelists Jean-Francois Morizur , Michael Dowell , Daniel Tröndle and Lubos Fedora, along with Gus van der Feltz for making this a good session.

Gefocust. Slagvaardig. Yesterday, teams from FSO Instruments and Demcon Delft & Enschede had the pleasure of visiting VDL ETG Almelo for an inspiring and informative factory tour across their facilities. The visit offered insight into VDL ETG’s high-quality design and manufacturing capabilities for various clients. We had excellent cross-team discussions on the design of our products and are proud to take the next step in our collaboration: FSO Instruments products will be manufactured at the VDL ETG Almelo factory, ensuring a strong, integrated approach from development through to high volume cleanroom production. A great example of partnership, technical excellence, and shared ambition. Thanks to VDL ETG Almelo for the warm welcome!

What does systems engineering look like in the real world? 🚀 As part of the Delft University of Technology Systems Engineering Programme, our colleague Bart Van De Laar recently gave an invited guest lecture, sharing his first-hand experience from working in the commercial space industry. From tackling complex challenges to turning ideas into real-world solutions, systems engineering plays a key role in shaping the technologies of tomorrow. That’s why we believe it’s not only important to apply it in our daily work, but also to inspire the next generation of engineers. A big thank you to the students for their curiosity and engagement, we look forward to seeing where your journey takes you!
