We're proud to be featured in the Fair Cobalt Alliance (FCA)’s newly released 2024 Annual Report, which showcases the tangible impact of collective action in the artisanal cobalt sector. We also want to congratulate the FCA on their broader achievements in 2024, from improving health and safety at mine sites to supporting child labor remediation and strengthening economic resilience across mining communities. Last year, we joined forces with the FCA and other partners to launch the Responsible Mineral Credits mechanism, a new approach to support safer, more responsible practices, and better working conditions at artisanal cobalt mines. Instead of only focusing on physical traceability, this mechanism lets companies fund direct improvements where they’re most needed. For us, that meant covering our 2023 cobalt footprint with credits that helped fund better underground ventilation at the Kamilombe mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. This project helped improve working conditions for the 5,000+ miners who work here. Together with the FCA, The Impact Facility, ARM, and Datastake, we're scaling cobalt credits so that more companies can join in transforming a high-risk supply chain into one that respects people and the planet. We have a winner! 🥁 We’re absolutely thrilled to announce the winning school of the first E-Waste Race in Baden-Württemberg’s Rhein-Neckar-Kreis region. Make some noise for Gymnasium Bammental! 🏆 Their team of 20 students from Grades 5 to 7 collected an impressive 1,402 electronic waste items, earning a total of 2,281 points - based on the type and size of items collected. A fantastic achievement that highlights the power of hands-on environmental education. Through the E-Waste Race, we’re working together with Das macht Schule and AVR Kommunal GmbH to raise awareness about e-waste collection and resource conservation. And this group of students have set a great example of what meaningful impact looks like. Their reward? A well-deserved class trip to Experimenta, Germany’s largest science center, where curiosity, creativity, and innovation come together. 🎒 A huge thank you to everyone who took part. This forum represents the unity that INSEAD creates, in a time where the world is not very united. For all of us here, INSEAD symbolizes leadership, it encourages making strong connections, and it celebrates the beautiful power of shared insight. Looking at the energy, passion, and commitment of over 1,230 participants and almost 60 speakers, as part of the organizing team I can confidently say—we did just that! We made the unattainable possible. Grateful for the opportunity to give the keynote opening speech today, and share my journey alongside Fairphone’s mission at the “Lead with Integrity, Shape the Future Now!” at the global INSEAD Alumni event in Amsterdam. At Fairphone, we began as a protest, fighting for change in the tech industry. From humble beginnings, we’ve embraced the tough dilemmas of balancing purpose with professionalism, ethics with business survival, and impact with growth. Our mission is simple: make electronics fairer, from design to the supply chain. It’s been a challenging, yet rewarding journey, and I’m inspired by how these tensions have driven us toward innovation and progress.
