Over ons
The Excess Materials Exchange (EME) is an online, facilitated marketplace where companies can exchange ANY excess material B2B. We actively match supply and demand and materials with their highest reuse opportunities. In that sense, we work like a dating site for materials where we are the matchmakers. Our purpose is to eliminate the word waste from the dictionary, to create a reliable source of secondary materials, ranging from steel plates to textile fibers. We are one of the few marketplaces that facilitates transactions across sectors and industries. We matching materials with the help of AI, safely exchanging sensitive data via blockchain and spurring innovation around material reuse. We are tapped into a global knowledge network of circular economy experts. This enables companies to become more resource resilient, decrease their environmental footprint and improve their bottom line by turning their waste into wealth.

🌍 𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗜𝗣𝗦 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗧𝗘 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱! ♻️ At last week’s Passenger Terminal EXPO & CONFERENCE ✈️ , the TULIPS team provided insights and analyses from our collaborative circularity pilots, showing how circularity is becoming a practical reality in airports. Here are some key takeaways shared by our experts in the “This is it: Circular Airports are becoming a reality” presentation session. For Amsterdam Airport Schiphol: 🏗️ Royal Schiphol Group is reusing building materials from in-terminal construction projects at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, made possible through close collaboration with Heijmans and Excess Materials Exchange. 📱 The pilot project’s digital inventory of reusable materials is steadily growing, with a clear and proven increase in reuse. Building materials are tracked using QR codes, with even smarter technology on the way! 🌱 The impact of reusing materials is tangible: lower CO₂ emissions, reduced inventory costs through faster turnaround, and fewer purchases of new and often more expensive materials. 💼 While reusing materials is a new process that takes time, especially from Project and Warehouse Managers, the business case is strong and its value evident! For Oslo Airport: 🛫 Oslo lufthavn is working to increase reuse and recycling as well as implement other waste avoidance initiatives in its daily operations. ♻️ Within its Zero Waste Project, Oslo is phasing out single-use tableware, reducing food waste, and promoting the reuse of work clothes, among many other initiatives. 💶 Implementing these circular measures offers an annual net savings potential of several hundred thousand euros by avoiding waste handling costs, lowering procurement needs, and more. 📈 Reducing overconsumption and increasing circularity is not only sustainable but also a smart business decision! 🧠 Zero waste is not just a waste management project; it is a communications and systems thinking project. Once you crack the code on how to motivate people to make sustainable choices, significant waste reduction naturally follows. Looking ahead, we’re excited to share more insights and results as this pilot project progresses throughout the year! #TULIPS #CircularEconomy #CircularConstruction #AirportInnovation #GreenBuilding #PTE2025 #Sustainability

🚨𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝. 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲? The EU’s ESPR is set to transform product compliance and circularity. Soon, billions of products—across textiles, electronics, furniture, and more—will require a Digital Product Passport (DPP). 𝐓𝐨 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞, 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: • Know where your data lives—and make it accessible across the value chain. • Agree on data formats and quality—so decentralised data sharing becomes seamless (like banks sharing financial data). • Use platforms like EME—we enable bulk uploads from Excel or ERP systems to instantly generate DPPs that meet the latest regulatory requirements. • Add tracking & tracing + AI to streamline creation, enrich insights, and ensure compliance at scale. DPPs won’t just make products more traceable—they will make circular economy operational, intelligent, and scalable. They turn sustainability from an aspiration into a system you can measure, manage, and monetize. This isn’t just about regulation—𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞-𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞. Want to stay ahead of the curve? 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞: 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐊’𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐬 To stay on track for net-zero by 2050, the UK's Climate Change Committee (CCC) recommends a strict carbon budget of just 535 MtCO₂e between 2038 and 2042. What does that mean in practice? • Near-zero landfill by 2045. • Resource efficiency across construction, textiles, and automotive. • Carbon capture for energy-from-waste plants. • Standardizing and improving recycling systems. In short: 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐨 𝐛𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬. What if the materials you normally discard could reduce carbon emissions and generate revenue—all by giving them a second life through reuse? 𝐏𝐓𝐄 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 — 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 Day 2 of #PassengerTerminalExpo provided room to showing how airports can turn waste to value. Anne Rademaker was thrilled to take the stage with Rita Jónyer from Avinor and Sara Solis from Royal Schiphol Group to spotlight how circularity is gaining altitude at airports. Key insights from our session: 🤝 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠: Tackling operational waste requires behavioral change and new processes with alignment across departments. 📈 𝐂𝐢𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Tracking and monitoring materials gives airports control over their assets — enabling smarter internal reuse or external resale. 💰 𝐑𝐞𝐮𝐬𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐰𝐢𝐧-𝐰𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐎₂ 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: Circular strategies deliver double wins: reduced CO₂ emissions and significant cost savings (inventory, procurement, waste handling). 🌱 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐛𝐢𝐠 — 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥: Start with what you can control: a pilot with an inventory & a marketplace with Excess Materials Exchange— like Schiphol did. Yes, it may feel lonely (like Anne today when coming to PTE by bike, without a process in place for this type of transportation to the event), and you might need to convince others. But don’t wait — just start and see all the benefits! 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬. 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐟𝐭𝐬. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲? Join us tomorrow at 10am for a live demo at the Aviation Solutions - by Schiphol Group stand (hall 10 - stand 1230) and see how EME's digital marketplace is utilized to reuse building materials in Schiphol's construction projects.
