Over ons

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term. We firmly believe in our team, but also in the strength of the individual. Each colleague is an entrepreneur, focused on ensuring truly satisfied clients and making our contribution to a better world. In every aspect of our business the next generation is our starting point.

  • Ready for the next ten years! Acta Marine’s DP2, walk-to-work CSOV, Acta Orion, recently called at our Oranjewerf repair yard in Amsterdam for a ten-year special survey. The scope of work was diverse, including hull cleaning and maintenance, steel works and welding. We also assisted Veth Propulsion in their scope, taking care of the vessel’s retractable thruster and propulsion system. With the work complete, Acta Orion can get back out on the water, performing her important role in ensuring the supply of our clean, renewable energy. #damenshiprepair #oranjewerf #damen

  • Noatum Maritime to take delivery of a second Damen RSD-E Tug 2513 At Damen we are delighted that leading maritime services provider Noatum Maritime, part of AD Ports Group’s Maritime & Shipping Cluster, will be taking delivery of a second RSD-E Tug 2513. This follows the success of their first such vessel, the Bu Tinah. Having two electric tugs will enable the company to perform berthing and unberthing operations at Khalifa Port with zero emissions, a first in the Middle East. The 70-tonne BP Damen RSD-E Tugs 2513 are not only powerful, they also measure just 25 metres in length, and they can complete several operations before they recharge their batteries. This takes just two hours. These capabilities demonstrate that moving to alternative energy sources does not have to come at the cost of performance. Their significance was recognised recently when the Bu Tinah was declared the World’s Most Powerful Electric Tugboat by the Guinness World Records™️ organisation. Damen’s build-in-anticipation-of-future-orders policy means that the second vessel will be delivered shortly. #rsdetug #shipbuilding #damen

  • Into the shed! This month, the Rossellini’s Four-10's REV Ocean entered our Vlissingen repair yard’s covered drydock AKA “The Shed!” Here, the 194-metre research and expedition vessel will undergo further outfitting. On completion of the project, REV Ocean will be ready embark upon unprecedented exploration of our marine environment. With her state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment, the vessel will be capable to access 98% of our waters, including in both polar and tropical regions. With this, she will advance discovery and facilitate preservation as she works towards her goal of ‘One Healthy Ocean.’ #revocean #damenshiprepair

  • Four vessels for Fairplay fleet renewal. In March we have signed three contracts with FAIRPLAY TOWAGE Group and one with Neue Schleppdampfschiffsreederei Louis Meyer. The contract will see four new tugs – two ASD Tugs 2312 and two RSD Tugs 2513 – added to the Fairplay Towage fleet. We have delivered a number of vessels to the company in recent years to support Fairplay’s fleet renewal programme, phasing in more efficient and sustainable vessels. The standard tugs are being tailored to the clients’ requirements with a number of options. Once completed, we will take care of the delivery of the vessels from our yards in Asia, after which the tugs will enter into operation in Germany and Poland.

The vessel will feature Fugro surveillance equipment and be able to launch unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV). With these capabilities, the FCS will patrol the Dutch Exclusive Economic Zone in the North Sea, monitoring vessel movements and performing underwater inspection of vital infrastructure such as cables and pipelines.
