🎉 Congratulations to our colleague Eleonora Dagiene for this achievement! We cannot wait to hear more about the unintended consequences of quantitative #ResearchAssessment at her defence in October.👀
PhD candidate at CWTS, Leiden University, the Netherlands | researcher and lecturer at Mykolas Romeris University, Lithuania | Open Science advocate
Nearing the finish line 🏁 Following a positive evaluation by the PhD committee, my thesis Quantitative Research Assessment and Its Unintended Consequences at Leiden University has been approved 🎉 This confirmation, received this week, is a wonderful culmination of hard-working years. A huge thank you to my supervisors Ludo Waltman, Vincent Larivière, Guus Dix, for their support throughout this process 🙏 and committee members Alesia Zuccala, Emanuel Kulczycki, Jochen Glaser, Alex Rushforth, and Rodrigo Costas Comesaña, for their rigorous feedback 🎓 The final step – the public defence and ceremony – is scheduled for Thursday, October 30th, 2025, at 16:00 (UTC+1 Amsterdam time). This is particularly special as it falls during Leiden University's 450th anniversary year! There's still a little wait due to university scheduling as every PhD defence ceremony takes place in Leiden University's historic medieval Academy Building! Great news --> Leiden University livestreams all PhD ceremonies! I will share the link closer to the date with my network and colleagues who have been asking about this final step. I'm incredibly excited for this final step 🎓 marking the completion of my long PhD journey and the start of the next chapter in academia. P.S. You can see this historical hall in the photo, which I took during my supervisor Ludo Waltman's Professorship inauguration lecture when Leiden University celebrated its 444th anniversary 😊

We're excited to join forces with Science Europe and Know Center to conduct a scoping study exploring how #OpenScience policies and practices impact and contribute to #ResearchCultures!
Science Europe is pleased to announce a new collaboration with CWTS | Leiden University and the Know Center to examine the links between #openscience and #researchcultures. The study is a follow-up to last year's survey on open science and research assessment, and aims to provide an academic context to key findings from the survey on open science, its implementation through research assessment and monitoring, and its role in contributing to the evolution of research cultures. The findings of the study will be made publicly available at the end of October. Find out more here: bit.ly/42JYlnF

Welcome Victoria Di Césare! Looking forward to many fruitful exchanges!
I'm thrilled to begin my research stay at the legendary CWTS | Leiden University! Thinking back, I never imagined I'd be learning directly from researchers whose work I was reading almost 10 years ago, while still an undergrad in Argentina. Thank you so much Rodrigo Costas Comesaña and Nicolas Robinson-Garcia for making this opportunity possible. It means a lot 😊

One year ago, on April 16, 2024, the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information was launched! In this blog post, we want to highlight some of the developments during this past year: https://lnkd.in/e4aiDQEF The topic of open research information has gained attention and awareness, and a growing number of organizations are coming together to make the transition to open research information a reality. One year after its launch, the Barcelona Declaration has achieved significant progress. Of course, important challenges remain, particularly in making the working groups as productive as possible and in advancing the development and adoption of principles of open research information across more countries. We will continue working in this direction, relying on a growing community of institutions and individuals committed to fulfilling the Barcelona Declaration’s commitments.
