Become a Site Template Creator

The Drupal.org Site Template marketplace creates the opportunity to share new starter kits for Drupal CMS that provide advanced capabilities for specific use cases right out of the box.

These templates can be free or paid, and both models offer commercial opportunity for the site template creators. The creator of a template is the obvious choice when the user needs advanced help or wants to build custom functionality on top.

Creator Requirements
Terms & Conditions:

In order to join the Site Template Marketplace Program, participants must meet certain requirements. The Site Template Marketplace is a service of the Drupal Association, designed to meet three goals:

1. To create the best possible experience for Drupal users to launch their sites.
2. To create economic opportunity for template creators, in particular 'Makers' who contribute back to the Drupal software.
3. To enhance the sustainability of the Drupal Association as the non-profit foundation that supports the global community.

These requirements are a combination of demonstrated commitment to the Drupal project, support of the Drupal Association, as well as quality gates for the templates themselves, which will be strict and varied - ranging from technical quality, accessibility, performance, responsive design, default content and image quality, etc.

These requirements are subject to change at any time at the discretion of the Drupal Association.

Applications for the 2nd wave are open

Following the successful pilot launch of the Drupal Site Template Marketplace, applications are now open for the 2nd round of partners.

Before we open submission of templates to 'general availability' we are carefully imposing certain requirements:

  • All Drupal-derived components will remain subject to GPL, but certain components like default content, images, etc can have a proprietary license.
  • You must respect the time and work of any maintainers whose projects you include as part of your Site Template.
  • You understand that you must work with the Drupal CMS leadership team with the same fast response time and attention to detail that you would when working on a client site.
  • You must understand that you are still working with the limitations of the current versions of Drupal CMS and Drupal Canvas, and that Site Templates cannot include non-stable releases(dev, alpha, beta, rc, etc) or patches.
  • You must understand that there are limitations in the commercial template workflow at this time. The Drupal Association is actively building out the commerce solution during this same period.
  • You understand that 30% of net retail revenue will be assessed as a fee by the Drupal Association to support the sustainability of the Drupal project and community.
  • You understand and agree that you will submit your complete template, including access to all the repositories needed for review, all marketing materials, and draft content and images for your listing, no later than June 15th, 2026.
  • You understand that the publication date of your site template is not guaranteed, and depends, among other factors, on the backlog of template reviews in queue.
