... and it relies on STRING_SPLIT returning its values in the right order, which isn't guaranteed. Let's see what happens with the current version. I like keeping things (reasonably) simple.

If values must be consecutive then the transaction should use an exclusive lock on the table. The query does require that the identity values are consecutive. | |
