Xiaomi Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G review

Design, build quality, handling

We wouldn't exactly call the Redmi Note 15 Pro's design language iconic or even quite memorable, but it is at least sufficiently distinct. The large camera island is a signature touch. It is color-matched with the rest of the back side, which is also a nice touch. The camera island is also shared across the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G and 4G.

Since we are on the topic of the phone's back side, it is made of plastic like the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G. The finish is quite smooth and almost velvety to the touch.

The Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G is available in Black, Glacier Blue and Titanium. All of the colors are pretty subdued and would fit nicely in any environment, even a boardroom.

Unlike the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, its 4G variant is quite a bit curvier. Both its front and back feature curved edges. This arguably makes for a more comfortable in-hand fit, though in practice the difference isn't that major.

Unfortunately, if you plan on applying a glass screen protector to your Redmi Note 15 Pro 4G, you will run into some issues related to the curved edges.

The phone feels very solid and well-made. It has absolutely no flex or hollowness. You also get IP65 ingress protection. While not quite as impressive as the IP68/IP69K rating of the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G, this is still good enough for most people and day-to-day situations.

The bill of materials is actually quite good. There is a plastic frame, but it gives off a convincing aluminum effect.

The rest of the materials include plastic for the back side and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the front, just like on the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G.

The control layout is quite standard. There is a power button on the right side, along with a volume rocker. Both are clicky and offer nice tactile feedback. The left-hand side is empty. There are speaker grills on both the top and the bottom of the device for a better and more balanced audio output. The top frame also houses the secondary noise-canceling mic and an IR blaster. The bottom side has the main mic, the Type-C port and a SIM tray. That SIM tray houses either two Nano-SIM cards or, alternatively, you could swap one of the SIMs for a MicroSD storage card.

There are no visible sensors anywhere on the front of the phone. Everything is neatly hidden away underneath the display.

The fingerprint reader is also underneath the panel. It is a simple optical unit, well-paced and quite reliable and speedy in its operation. We have no complaints about its accuracy or operation.

Oh they actually did post it finally! Still quite a puzzling proposition in markets like Europe, why did they still bother with the base Pro over here? No one else is bringing 4G phones this expensive to the market anymore (aside from like HUAW...
