What they did was... moreIndeed, when you put it that way, they just shifted to the better money-grabbing schemes... 🤭 Smartphones can be made obsolete much faster than a mere music player and once they finally discovered they can make disposable headphones in 2016... 🤯🤯🤑🤑

Those of us who know a thing or two about tech beside what Apple invented or "invented" were looking in confusion trying to understand what's now the big deal about tech we used on dumb- and smartphones at the time of the first iPhone, which, shockingly, didn't have support for Bluetooth stereo, but not everything in life has to make sense.

User935, 24 Oct 2026Quite surprising they left the market... Since you're ... moreThey didn't quite leave the market.
What they did was, they innovated the iPhone (1) in 2007, and it was essentially what the market wanted:- a high quality music player in a phone.

For some weird reason, Apple skipped the 3.5mm jack from iPhone 7 onwards, and for even weirder reason, customers let Apple survive this identity holocast... I mean iPhone was a iPod that was a phone, so what happened?

Today's customers are lunatic zombies:- you remove the 3.5mm jack and high quality music, they don't care. Reasons? Unknown. Maybe fanboyism.
They'll gladly quote me too, but I never got one logical reason.

I had the Philips HDD 120 premium mp3 player and I think it was as good if not better than the iPod, especially when it comes to sound quality and design.

Think I'll stay with my WM1AM2 for the time being 🤭

The last iPod Touch was basically a WiFi-only iPhone. If Apple really want people to pay more money for the whole "bRaNd eCoSyStEm" bs nonsense, they would have continued making a new version by using the iPhone SE as the base.

Digital music players were already everywhere when Apple came up with the idea of making: an MP3 player. But well, It all lines up pretty well with their idea of making smartphones or foldables. They were always the first… to be the last, of course.

Never had one, my parents weren't filthy rich to have a Mac at home, and my own money wasn't enough for one at that age.

I did have a genereic MP3 player with 128mb of storage, those that looked like a USB stick and had a build in USB-A on them, and used 1x AAA battery.

Used that thing for many years until I got myself a Sony MP4 player with 4gb of storage.
