I like how Huawei is doing differently on screen ratios these days. Apple is likely to follow then Samsung then everyone else.

I've used the OG non-folding wide screen GOAT, Huawei Mate 20x, for 6 years as my daily driver.. Its an experience no regular phone can match.. I changed my phone finally as cameras got very outdated otherwise, I still charge it time to time to consume content on its 7.25" screen .. and it was one of the last phones to receive Google Services

Anonymous, 16 Aug 2026is it easier to hold in single hand?As someone who has very very large hands 34cm circumfernce. A wide phone like this is perfect. But I would like a wide, slightly tall, folding phone.

LoLoL, 15 Aug 2026probably you have asian/kid hands to comment it. Usually I am all for wider phones, but this time I have to agree with him. 6.3 inch 16:10 screen will be 85mm wide, without the borders. With border will be over 90mm
This is well over 1cm wider that the current big screen phones, like S26 Ultra. While not unusable, it will not be for everyone

These types are made to get the profit from few customers only and not meant for the larger customer base. that is just how it's being done in the past and it's already a pattern

pl2rts, 15 Aug 2026It's nice and all but it's still only for that 1%... moreFolding displays are generally expensive so naturally a flip or fold would cost more than Slabs.
Now these phones are just normal slab with different aspect ratio. Why should it be more expensive than standard phones?

It's nice and all but it's still only for that 1% of market cause it must be a flagship specs with flagship price.
Have we already got to like 10 years of foldable phones and still no budget to middle class ? Motorola is cheapest but still too high of a price to make sense to get one.
I use at best 5% of what even 150 euro phone have to offer so how it would make sense to spend in 4 digits or close to it for a new phone ?
This shape would be nice to use as there for i dont need to zoom in for larger text that then make the videos and pictures big too.

LoLoL, 15 Aug 2026probably you have asian/kid hands to comment it. But they do have a point, a 6.3 16:10 phone would be near 90+mm in width, unless you got hands like an NBA player you're not one-handing that.

it would be exciting to see how manufacturers use this aspect ratio. personally I won't mind a wider phone to hold cos am already using some of the largest phone on the market nowadays.
a wide screen will have advantages like easier to see things on a screen and video will be played in a larger screen. but this will depend on how they implement it - will it be true 16.10 aspect or not. for example the fold 8 is not a true 16.10 and someone on YouTube did a comparison of it between a S26 ultra / huawei mini tablet and a Tab S11 and there is quirks with that fold 8 screen aspect. difficult to explain as you have to have different device to compare it with fold 8 then one can see it
