Samsung announces UFS 5.0 storage, and it may be in your next phone

23 June 2026
It is claimed to offer a sequential write speed of up to 9.5 GBps.

Most people don't even know what kind of internal memory their phone has. Apple doesn't mention it, and people rave about the speed of the iPhone and most other phones. I've even seen phones with UIFS 2.2 and they still run smoothly, haha. So this is all just nonsense.

PatrickCzech, 23 Jun 2026You mean 10.8 and 9.8 Gb and not GB.No. The press release by Samsung itself says GB/s not Gbps.

      no it may not

If AI were to cool down their pace a bit then next year will be a great year for buying smartphones

Finally a real upgrade in the hardware, I'm sick of all AI features.

"Samsung announces UFS 5.0 storage, and it may be in your next phone"

I have no doubt it will be in my next phone. But will it be in the next Samsung phone? They don't really like to use their top-of-the-line technology for their flagships.

Now is the time to use UFS5+SD Gen 6 and not ultra with 12GB RAM. The company/Android/App developers in whole should instead focus on memory optimization.
Like apart from games, you actually do not need that beefy CPU+GPU. NPU is important.

People in southeast asia cannot afford it anyway. Blame ai for ram and storage cost, also chip

Vasra, 23 Jun 2026Doesn't matter for most of us. Flash memory will be 2x... moreBack in April, DCS posted on weibo that combo 8 Elite gen 6 pro + 16GB ddr6 + 1TB ufs5.0 gonna pass easily $500. Now add screen, cam system and other hardware. Some phones gonna have BoM at $750-800 .

                              40% more power efficient

this will be Samsungs excuse for not increasing battery sizes in phones

Doesn't matter for most of us. Flash memory will be 2x to 4x price next year, due to AI slop centers gobbling up all memory.

This is pointless if smartphone makers continue limiting USB 3.0 speeds to flagships only. A phone can have a Gen 5 NVMe drive inside, but it doesn't matter if the port is limited to USB 2's 480mbps speed.

didn't realize UFS 4 came out 4 years ago.

                                        All because of 4K Por-kemon?
