Xiaomi unveils the Leica Leitzphone with a rotating Leica Camera Ring, 200MP telephoto camera

28 February 2026
It's basically the China-exclusive Xiaomi 17 Ultra Leica Edition with a different battery size.

For 2K - buy a Leica camera. It's not cr@p after 12 months, but this phone is - when the successor comes out - the whatever new Xiaomi Ultra, into Fall/Winter 2026.

It's one of the main reason I now use Sony as my daily driver. Both the headphone jack and microSD card slot are always relevant and never goes outdated.

Xiaomi? 2000 euro for a phone? Crazy! But what's even crazier than that is the fact they didn't add a headphone jack in top of the line product for crazy amount of money.

But the cheapest models do have a headphone jack. Where's logic in that?!

I don't think its about the device itself, but more about the components..
maybe they source them with a heavier price tag than usual because of Donald Duck's wars around the world.. [wait for more tariffs and prices going up because Hormuz Strait is blocked?]
who knows.. but in the next months everything going to get even more expensive...
as of this moment an assault riffle is cheaper than DDR5 RAM.

Unless if you got hooked by the Leica M3 and M9 modes, I see no reason to get this over the standard 17 Ultra. Also, I still maintain 14 Ultra is the best release yet with the ever-useful variable aperture on the main camera and a native short zoom telephoto camera with telemacro functionality. Xiaomi still has a long way to really replace the 14 Ultra.

People buy a Ferrari mainly not for it's performance, but for prestige. Same thing with this Leica edition. Some people worship certain brand and willing to pour money to defend their "idols". It doesn't matter how other people view their value. Someone's trash is other people's treasure.

I couldn't agree more. The 15 Ultra is a great phone, but the price was 1300 € on launch, not 2000 €. Is the RAM/SSD price issue really 700 € more?

                          2000 euros, yikes

Hugo, 28 Feb 2026Wow that price. Are people really that rich to buy these. I... moreLet me correct you on that:

                            - under $200 new smartphone = adware and spyware + low performance
                            - $200–$400 = adware + spyware Android OR old slightly older, but superior in every way iPhone with no adware and no spyware
                            - $400–$600 = 1-2 years old iPhone with no adware and no spyware
                            - $600 or more = new iPhone with no adware and no spyware

So… they significantly reduced the battery capacity from 6800mAh to 6000mAh — that’s a drop of about 11.8%, which is quite substantial.

several bands have been removed compared to the CN version:
                              5G removed: n13 / n18 / n70 / n80 / n81 / n83 / n84 / n89 (these are SUL bands, which help improve uplink performance)
                              LTE removed: B34

they didn’t even add any mmwave support for global for this price tag. That means where mmwave is deployed, it won’t be able to compete with Apple, Samsung, or even Pixel devices in peak network speeds, since those phone support mmwave.

The CN version also supports Tiantong satellite communication (satellite phone calls & messaging) and BeiDou dual satellite messaging, while the global version does not support any satellite communication at all.

In terms of durability, the CN version is rated IP66, IP68, and IP69, whereas the global version only retains IP68 (does it mean, it can't pass IP69 in legit standard test?).

And the price? It has nearly doubled — €1,999 (~16,203 CNY) compared to 8,499 CNY (~€1,048) for the CN version.

this feels like a major downgrade rather than just a minor regional adjustment — smaller battery, fewer bands, no satellite features, lower ingress protection rating, and a much higher price. strange move.

Leica, as a company, is totally degraded nowadays. Associating with a Chinese knockoff brand wtf? What's next - Ferrari Temu?

Wow that price. Are people really that rich to buy these. I've kept the same standards since the last 10 to 15 years. Upto $200 is low end, from $200 to $400 is mid range and above $400 is high end, Anything above $600 or $650 is enthusiast edition and not worth it for me. Thus standard just held good since my country's currency lost value as well. Also phones are mostly comparatively cheaper in my country.

I'd rather buy a Leica D-Lux 8 with that money

                                      That price is pure fantasy
