Honor Magic V6 review
Two excellent displays
The Honor Magic V6 relies on two LTPO 2.0 OLED screens - one foldable and one cover. Both offer 10-bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate, and 4,320Hz PWM dimming. There is support for HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for both screens.
The Magic V6 has stylus support on both screen sides.
The foldable screen has a 7.95-inch panel with 2172 x 2352 pixels and UTG protection on top of it. It is advertised for 5,000nits of peak brightness.
The cover screen relies on a 6.52-inch panel with 1,080 x 2,420 pixels and NanoCrystal Shield for protection. It should offer an even higher peak brightness of 6,000 nits.
Both screens feature anti-reflective layers, a first for the Magic V series.
We've taken our usual display measurements, and we want to commend Honor for keeping consistent brightness for both screens. For example, 200 nits on the inner screen corresponds to 200nits on the cover one.
Let's start with the foldable display. We captured 637 nits of maximum manual and 1,222 nits of maximum automatic brightness here. The peak brightness at 10% white patch was 1,240 nits, while the bare minimum at white screen was just 1 nit.
The cover screen offers 808 nits of maximum manual and 1,604 nits of maximum automatic brightness. We got much higher peak brightness at 10% white patch here - 2,593 nits. Finally, the minimum brightness on the cover screen remained 1 nit.
Refresh rate
The two screens on the Honor Magic V6 use LTPO 2.0 panels with a dynamic refresh rate. They can go as low as 1Hz and as high as 120Hz and everything in between.
The OS offers three refresh rate options, all of them dynamic ones - Dynamic, Standard, and High. Standard puts a ceiling of 60Hz but remains as dynamic as the rest.
Dynamic and High go up to 120Hz and tend to behave quite similarly. The main difference is that in High mode, you get a per-app setting list. However, it doesn't exactly allow you to force, say, 120Hz on any given app. It has toggles for most apps to "allow" them to go as high as 120Hz if they so please. But if an app, say Chrome, was choosing 90Hz in Dynamic, under High mode, it would go to 120Hz.
Many games do not have such a toggle and instead go under the "Follow app settings", where you cannot configure anything and rely on what the app decides.
The screens are as dynamic as promised - 1Hz for idling, 120Hz for UI and compatible apps, 60Hz for HRR incompatible ones. We saw 24Hz, 48Hz, 50Hz and more for various videos depending on their fps.
HDR and streaming
Both displays of the Magic V6 support HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision streaming standards. And all popular apps recognized them as such and deliver the maximum available streaming quality.
Android Ultra HDR format is also supported.
Display enhancements
The Honor Magic V6 offers a couple of interesting display enhancements.
The first one is Super Dynamic Display, which improves the brightness and contrast with the help of AI. It works in the gallery, the default video player, YouTube, Netflix, and more.
Vivid Display enhances the clarity and colors of videos, and works on YouTube and Netflix, as well as other streaming services.
Both features increase the power consumption, and the results are not always that obvious. Most modern shows and movies does not need any further enhancements over their Dolby Vision/HDR10 versions.
Battery life
The global version of the Honor Magic V6 is powered by a 6,600mAh Si/C battery, about 15% larger capacity than the cell inside the international Magic V5.
Just for your information, if you get the V6 in China, it will feature an even larger 6,850mAh battery for all but the 1TB model, which gets an exclusive 7,150mAh cell.
We've completed our battery life tests on both displays and the scores are great for a foldable.
When using the large screen, the Honor Magic V6 posted an Active Use Score of 15:21h with superb times across the board - call, web browsing, streaming, gaming.
The Active Use Score when using the cover screen turned out pretty great too at 18:20h. Here, the web, streaming and game times all gained about 3 additional hours.
Charging speed
The Honor Magic V6 supports 80W wired and 66W wireless charging. There is also support for reverse wired and reverse wireless charging.
The phone ships without a charger, but we had Honor's own 80W power adapter and we used that one for our charging speed test. The phone offered to boost the charging when we plugged it in at the expense of some more heat, and we did opt for the said boost.
The Magic V6 would suggest unfolding the phone for the fastest charging speed possible, but as we discovered, it is plenty fast either way.
Let's start with our charging test in the unfolded state. Here we clocked 37% of charge in 15mins, 70% in 30mins, and a full charge - 56 mins.
The charging speed is almost identical in the folded state - 37% in 15 mins, 66% in 30mins, and 100% in 59 mins.
The Honor Magic V6 has all modern battery protection features. First, it lets you set a charging limit at 90%, 80% or even 70%.
There is also a toggle called Smart battery capacity, which promises to stop charging before the battery is actually full to its top capacity. It's not clear just how far off, though, and the phone still shows 100% charged in the process.
Finally, there's Smart charging toggle that charges the phone to 80% and then keeps it there overnight before finishing the top up just in time for you to start using your phone.
Speakers
The Honor Magic V6 has two stereo speakers at the top and bottom of the frame. When the V6 is closed - those are in symmetrical position, but when open - they are positioned diagonally.
The speakers scored a Good mark on our loudness test. The audio output is likable with rich and deep enough sound.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.

gsmarena should also start measuring screen to body ratio for all fold ables front screens by now ! this would be of great help to me who is waiting to get 1 and am sure there are many others waiting for it too !
