Your network is struggling with bandwidth issues. How do you explain this to non-tech stakeholders?
Imagine your internet is a coffee shop with one barista. When a few customers order, everything runs smoothly—emails send, videos stream, and cat memes load instantly. But then, a busload of people shows up. The barista is overwhelmed, orders pile up, and suddenly, your double-shot latte (a video call) turns into a weak drip (buffering and lag). That’s our network right now—too many orders, not enough coffee (bandwidth). We either need a bigger café (more bandwidth) or fewer people ordering triple-mocha extra foam.

What do you do if your network engineering career needs future-proofing?
Try to use your previous experiences to guide, however this shouldn’t limit your perspective. I would advise to attend yearly tech events to keep up to date. Setup a home lab to continuously test, innovate and improve your skills.

What do you do if your network engineering career needs future-proofing?
Certifications in IT validate your skills and knowledge in specific areas, giving you credibility in the field. However, experience complements certifications by providing practical application of that knowledge, problem-solving skills, and real-world understanding. Together, they form a robust foundation for a successful IT career, where theoretical knowledge meets practical expertise. I would suggest having experience first and after that certify to prove it.

In the fast-paced field of network engineering, adaptability is key. Embracing emerging technologies like SDN, DNA, ISE, NAC is essential for staying relevant. Pursuing certifications validates expertise and guides career growth. But be aware certifications alone might not help as you may think. It always goes hand in hand with real world experience. Utilizing diverse learning platforms, textbooks, elearning or video based ensures a comprehensive understanding. I believe that continuous learning isn't just an option—it's a necessity for success in this dynamic field.
