Garmin previously released its Fenix 8 and Fenix 8 Pro smartwatches a year apart from one another. This year though, the company has decided to let both base and Pro models share the spotlight, with the announcement of the Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro. The latter is also extra notable this time around, as the brand claims that it’s the first of the series to be given a full titanium case.
Garmin Fenix 9
Starting with the base model, Garmin says that the Fenix 9 has an AMOLED display that’s twice as bright as its predecessor. On top of the display is a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, and the watch itself is dive-rated up to 40m. New to the series is what the company calls the Garmin Epic feature, which groups “multiple workout activities into one cohesive story in Garmin Connect”. In other words, you can turn your workout and health data into a story to share with others. You can also add photos to these if you so choose.
On that note, there’s also the new stamina tracking set of features to show endurance level changes over time to help you pace yourself better during activities. In a similar vein, the brand says rucking features have been expanded, letting you change your pack weight during an activity – up to 100kg – as well as set target metrics like amount of calories burned. Built-in routable maps are also more intuitive, with a new perspective view to let you better anticipate what’s coming. You also get 64GB of storage space to store map data and songs.
Garmin Fenix 9 Pro
Moving on to the Pro model, the company has decided that this is the one to get the distinction between AMOLED and Solar models. The former features a display brightness of up to 3,000 nits, with the largest-sized model having its screen measuring in at 1.5 inches, 15% larger than the previous generation without increasing the case size. The integrated flashlight also has a green light mode.
The Garmin Fenix 9 series of smartwatches comes in 43mm, 47mm and 51mm sizes, with the exception of the Pro Solar version as it doesn’t get a 43mm model. The base model has prices ranging from RM4,299 to RM4,899 depending on size and colour. As for the Pro AMOLED versions, they range from RM4,699 to RM5,499 instead. Then there’s the Pro Solar model, which only comes in two sizes and one colour option, and is priced at RM4,699 and RM5,099 for the 47mm and 51mm models respectively. They will all be available starting from 18 September.
