Today, I was pleased to welcome 102 new colleagues to Marubeni, who have now joined us on our journey to global heights, and share with them the values that Marubeni holds dear, our vision for the Marubeni of the future, and my hopes that they grow as individual people and remember the positive power of smiles over the course of their careers. 本日、ともに「世界の高み」を目指す102名の新しい仲間を迎え、丸紅が大切にしている価値観、目指している姿、そして新入社員の皆さんが丸紅で笑顔を大切にしながら個として成長されていくことへの期待について共有しました。

Marubeni Corporation has been selected for the 2026 Health & Productivity Stock, a program jointly organized by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.   I recently attended the awards ceremony, where I had the honor of receiving this award from Mr. Kimiyasu Kudo, former manager of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. Drawing on his distinguished career as both a player and a manager, Mr. Kudo spoke about the common characteristics of strong professional teams: making players aware of the importance of taking rest and the courage to do so, creating an environment in which it is easy to receive support for health related issues from those around them, and ensuring that everyone raises their awareness of health and invests their time in it.   Similarly, at Marubeni, we are implementing a range of initiatives that focus on health for individuals, such as the “Good Sleep Program,” which supports employees in improving their sleep, and the “Marubeni Femtech Program,” which helps alleviate health issues specific to women. To promote a well-balanced way of working, we also encourage employees to take planned vacations.   In addition, this year we are holding the “Walking Festival,” a walking event in which many executives and employees, including members of the Corporate Management Committee, are participating. While accumulating steps, this event aims to enhance health awareness and support each individual in proactively managing their own health, and it is complemented by various other health-promotion initiatives.   We believe that only in a sound environment that places importance on health and fosters mutual support can both individuals and our businesses continue to grow in a healthy manner. While there is still room for us to reach higher, Marubeni remains firmly committed to advancing health and productivity management. 丸紅は、経済産業省と東京証券取引所が選ぶ「健康経営銘柄 2026」に選定されました。   先日表彰式に参加し、元福岡ソフトバンクホークス監督の工藤公康氏より表彰いただきました。選手としても監督としても大変に活躍された工藤氏からは、強いプロのチームには、選手に休む大切さ・休む勇気を意識させること、健康へのサポートを周囲から得られやすい環境を作ること、全員が健康への意識を高め時間を投資していくことが共通項であるとのお話を頂きました。   翻って当社においても、個のコンディショニングにフォーカスした「睡眠改善 GoodSleep(ぐっすり)プログラム」や、女性特有の不調の改善を支援する「丸紅フェムテックプログラム」などの施策を展開しています。加えて、メリハリのある働き方を実現するために、計画的な休暇取得を推進しています。また、経営会議メンバーはじめ多くの役員・社員が参加するウォーキングイベント「歩 Fes.」を今年は開催しています。歩数を積み上げながら健康意識を高め、一人ひとりの主体的な健康づくりを後押しする様々な取組みも実施しています。   健康を重視し周囲が周囲をサポートする健全な環境があってこそ、個人と事業が健やかな成長を続けることができると考えています。まだまだ高みへ改善できる点があり、丸紅は健康経営にしっかりと取り組んでまいります。

Founder, Mukesh of the Phillips Pharma Group, a major pharmaceutical distributor in Sab-Saharan Africa and a capital and strategic partner of Marubeni Corporation, told me the story of “The Pulse of Africa”—the Great Migration of 1.5 million wildebeests across 1,000 km in search of fresh grazing lands. Their endless journey of survival across the vast savannah is the very embodiment of an “aggressive survival strategy” in modern business and offers us three crucial insights. 丸紅が資本業務提携を行うアフリカの医薬品卸大手、Phillips Pharma Group。その創業者であるMukesh氏から伺ったアフリカの鼓動「ヌーの大移動（150万頭のヌーが、生き残るために1,000kmを駆ける）」の話は、まさに現代ビジネスにおける『攻めの生存戦略』そのものです。広大なサバンナを生き抜く彼らの姿は、私たちに3つの重要な示唆を与えてくれます。

Since entering South Africa in 1950, Marubeni Corporation has walked alongside the African continent. We have continued to believe in this region’s potential across diverse fields including chemicals, energy, infrastructure, and food. Marubeni's history in Africa has been far from smooth—in fact, we have continuously faced trials and tribulations along the way. Yet, on this recent visit to Africa, I personally felt the dawn of hope rising in many places. 1. Growth rooted in domestic demand: Major cities like Lagos, Johannesburg, and Nairobi are brimming with a palpable energy that cannot be measured solely by macroeconomic figures seen from Japan. For example, at our subsidiary MacroSource LLC’s (formerly Gavilon Fertilizer) South African base, which I recently visited, the expansion of fertilizer blending facilities is delivering high-value-added products to farmers in South Africa and neighboring countries. Since entering this market in 2008, I feel the business we have built with a long-term perspective is bearing fruit and poised for further growth. 2. Straightforward trust: In Zulu/Xhosa, there is a saying that goes, “A person is a person because of other people,” meaning relationships are built on mutual trust. Across our 60+ years of business experience in Africa, what we value most are our numerous clients and partners with whom we have long cultivated and share this very trust, a foundation that nurtures hope. 3. People with ambition: At each location I visited, I encountered numerous Group employees who hold high aspirations for both Africa and Marubeni. It is the unwavering passion of each and every one of them that serves as the greatest engine driving the Marubeni Group forward. For the Marubeni Group, Africa is truly a “land of hope.” As we look to further accelerate our expansion, the next step for our Africa business begins here and now. Please continue to look forward to the progress of our Marubeni Group colleagues as they pioneer a future of hope. 1950年の南アフリカ進出以来、丸紅はアフリカと共に歩んでいます。化学品、エネルギー、インフラ、食糧等の多岐にわたる分野で、この大陸の可能性を信じ続けてきました。 丸紅のアフリカでの歴史は、決して平坦ではありませんでした。まさに困難との格闘の連続。しかし今回、改めてアフリカ現地を訪れ、いくつもの「希望」を肌で感じています。   ①   内需に根ざした成長：ラゴス、ヨハネスブルグ、ナイロビ等主要都市には、日本から見るマクロ経済の数字だけでは測れない、確かな熱気が溢れています。例えば、先日訪問した当社事業会社のMacroSource（旧Gavilon Fertilizer）の南アフリカ拠点では、肥料ブレンディング施設の拡充により、高付加価値な製品を南アフリカとその周辺国の農家に届けています。2008年の参入以来、長期的な視点で築いてきたビジネスが、結実し、更に成長していくと感じています。 ②   真っ直ぐな信頼関係：アフリカのコサ語・ズールー語では、他者との信頼により成り立っているという「A Person Is a Person Because of Other People』という諺があります。60年以上のビジネスを通した経験を経て私たちが最も大切にしているのは、この言葉通りの「信頼」を分かち合える幾多の取引様・パートナーの存在です。幾多の取引先とアフリカで長く培ってきた信頼関係は希望を育む基盤です。 ③   志を持つ「人」：訪問した各拠点で、アフリカのため丸紅のために、高い志を掲げる幾多のグループ社員の姿がありました。彼ら一人ひとりのひたむきな情熱こそが、丸紅グループを突き動かす最大のエンジンです。   丸紅グループは、アフリカを「希望の地」と定め、攻めの展開をさらに加速させます。丸紅のアフリカ事業は、今ここから。希望の未来を切り拓く丸紅グループの社員の飛躍に、どうぞご期待ください。

Last month, I visited EML - Energy Means Life, a power generation company operating in Portugal, and met with CEO Célio Pinto and his management team. Marubeni Corporation began investing in this company in 2013 and acquired it as a wholly owned subsidiary in 2024. To mark the occasion as a fresh start for the company, all the employees discussed what to rename the company. They chose EML, which stands for “Energy Means Life.” Indeed, as the name implies, EML is a critical infrastructure business vital to Portugal and the surrounding regions. During the large-scale blackout in Spain and Portugal in April 2025, for example, EML utilized the black start capability of one of its facilities to resume power generation, contributing to the timely restoration of power systems. EML’s growth strategy involves carefully expanding its power generation operations at key locations deemed vital in Portugal’s electricity policy, while simultaneously transforming its business model to include project development, construction, and O&M services. EML’s climb to new heights, driven by its sincere commitment to business expansion, begins here and now, and I look forward to the company’s continued growth. 先月ポルトガルで発電事業を手掛けるEML社を訪問し、Célio Pinto CEOをはじめ経営幹部の皆さんと面談をしました。丸紅は2013年に同社に参画し、2024年に完全子会社化をしています。その際に社員全員が議論し、新会社の名前を「Energy Means Life」を意味するEMLと決め、新たな出発をしました。2025年4月にポルトガル・スペインで発生した大規模停電の際には、保有設備のブラックスタート機能を生かして発電を再開し、早期復旧に貢献をしました。その社名が示す通り、国・地域にとって重要な基幹インフラ事業となっています。 EMLの成長戦略は、ポルトガルの電力政策上重要な拠点での発電事業を大切に伸ばしながら、案件開発・建設・O&Mサービス事業へとビジネスモデルを変革していくことです。真摯に事業拡充を目指すEMLの飛躍は今まさにここから始まろうとしています。今後の更なる成長を期待しています。
