About the Study:
What Surgical Patients Told Researchers After Using Jeenie Interpreters and AI Interpreting

Today’s healthcare systems face a simple reality: there are not enough interpreters to meet current language access needs—and the gap is widening. As providers seek ways to expand coverage, AI interpretation is emerging as a possible solution, but an important question remains:

Are patients ready for AI to support their communication in clinical care?

About the Client

A rapidly growing Community Health Clinic (CHC) and Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) serving diverse populations across Texas was expanding quickly—adding locations, services, and staff while staying focused on patient-centered care. They offer a wide range of health-related services, including pediatric and adult primary care, women's health, senior care, dental care, behavioral health, pharmacy services, and Nutrition. As a provider, they have a technology-driven approach focused on improving accessibility and quality of care.

By 2022, the CHC was managing language access through three separate vendors: one for phone interpreting, one for in-person services, and another for ASL. That fragmented approach made it harder to scale efficiently, support walk-ins, and keep pace with growth across clinics.

“Before Jeenie... how we were going to communicate with patients was something we had to problem-solve for every appointment.”
- Director of Patient Services

As the organization grew by roughly 30–50%, leadership needed a more modern, flexible approach—one that could support patient access without slowing care or adding operational strain.

Reducing Admin Stress & Language Barriers in a Rural Free Clinic

About the client:

This Federally Qualified Free Health Clinic is a nonprofit care provider serving uninsured and underinsured residents in a rural region of southeastern Utah. Nestled between two national parks in the Moab area, it serves a community of roughly 5,000 residents (with about 10,000 in the surrounding county) and tourists that flock to the parks every year. Many local workers are immigrants, leading to a diverse patient population with a wide range of language and cultural needs.

Meeting those language needs effectively—and confidentially—was an ongoing challenge for The Clinic. With limited resources and a small staff, they relied on a patchwork of nonprofit interpreters, bilingual employees, and even friends or family members to interpret, often raising concerns about consistency, professionalism, and privacy.

The Clinic needed a reliable, professional language solution that protected patient privacy, eased the burden on staff, and could flex to support their diverse community—without adding complexity. Jeenie delivered all that, and more.

“Jeenie saves me so much time that used to get lost in trying to establish language coverage between nonprofit interpreters and bilingual staff.”-The clinic's Executive Director

Tampa Free Clinic & Foundation Sees Increased Accuracy, Trust, and 2x Time-Savings With Jeenie

About the client:

The Client is a nonprofit foundation and free clinic serving uninsured and underinsured populations in the Tampa, Florida, area. It offers an array of solutions and is on a mission to bridge healthcare gaps for marginalized communities by providing accessible, high-quality care.

While their language support needs were relatively small, the clinic faced significant communication barriers when serving non-English speaking patients. Initially, they relied on informal interpreters, such as patients’ friends or family members, which could lead to critical misunderstandings.

About the client:

The Organization supports over 120,000 families and individuals across Chicago and surrounding areas who speak a wide array of languages, with 81% of clients coming from working poor or lower-middle-class backgrounds. It is a nonprofit with a staff of over 1,000 and provides a broad range of services, including family support, legal aid, and crisis intervention.

The organization realized that relying on bilingual staff wasn’t sustainable for their communication needs. However, they faced significant challenges with an audio-only language service that was hard to navigate, had long wait times, and was often unreliable -especially during after-hours situations.

Additionally, they struggled to secure quality in-person interpreters and allocate budget for language services.

It was clear they needed a more efficient, scalable solution for high-quality interpretation to bridge language gaps, provide equal access, and support their mission of empowerment.
