The field of electrocatalytic nitrogen reduction reaction is relatively young. It has been maturing the past several years through experimental iteration, collaboration and correction. The importance of learning how to avoid contamination in experimental setup has been one of the major fields of correction the past years. As a contribution to these correction steps within our field, our PhD student, Jinchao Wang has just published a ViewPoint article within ACS Energy Letters discussing the possible nitrogen contamination in catalysts due to chemicals used for the catalyst synthesis. https://lnkd.in/dqXPyE7N

We are honored to be the recipients of an EIC Transition grant. Our project Electrocatalytic Ammonia SYnthesis, EASY, is the next step following our previous Horizon Europe project VERGE (Versatile and direct E-fuel and feRtilizer Generation from renewable Electricity), building on its breakthroughs and maturing its technology. With an excellent consortium including EcoVibes, VITO, TEGA and Agriculture University of Iceland we look forward to the next three years!   The EASY project is revolutionizing ammonia production by advancing the Atmonia process from lab concept to practical application. Unlike the traditional, carbon-heavy Haber-Bosch method, EASY uses a sustainable approach to create ammonia from air and water, effectively harnessing renewable energy without the need for high pressure or temperature. It is exciting to be in the field of sustainable ammonia development in the year 2026. We will look back to these years decades from now as the time when the old processes were being disrupted, and novel ideas for production of the simplest molecules were being developed.
