We have analysed over 80k real farmer voice queries across Hindi, Telugu, and Odia and Amharic and come up with evaluation framework for benchmarking ASR efficacy. When a farmer asks: "गेहूं में कीड़ा लग गया है, क्या करें?" (Wheat has pests, what to do?) ASR system hears: "गांव में कीड़ा लग गया है" (Village has pests) 😱 Traditional metrics say: "Great! Only 12.5% error rate!" ✅ Reality for farmers: "Completely irrelevant advice" ❌ 🔍 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 Current ASR metrics treat all words equally. Misrecognizing "the" or "pesticide" count as single errors. But in specific domain like agriculture, some mistakes make it useless: 🧪 कीटनशक → शक (pesticide → doubt): Farmers get no guidance  🌱 रोपने → रोकने (transplanting → stopping): Opposite sense  💩 खाद → खा (manure → eat): Irrelevant context entirely 🎯 Our Innovation: two pronged metrics 1️⃣ AWWER (Agriculture Weighted Word Error Rate) We built a metric using LLM that assigns importance weights: 🔴 Weight 4: Core terms (crops, pests, chemicals) 🟡 Weight 3: Agricultural practices & timing 🟢 Weight 2: Quantities & measurements ⚪ Weight 1: General vocabulary 2️⃣ LLM-Based Utility Scoring (1-4 scale) 🟢 Score 4: Perfect - same agricultural advice 🟡 Score 3: Good - minor errors, same action 🟠 Score 2: Poor - different advice needed 🔴 Score 1: Dangerous - completely wrong context Results: 36.6% of Hindi transcripts were irrelevant despite "acceptable" WER scores! 🗺️ 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 📈 Crop ID errors: गेहूं → गांव (wheat → village)  🌾 Farming mistakes: रोपने → रोकने (planting → stopping)  🐛 Plant health fails: कीड़ा → क्या (insect → what)  ☠️ Chemical: कीटनाशक → शक (pesticide → doubt) Each block = real failures leading to wrong or irrelevant agricultural advice 💀 🌍 𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 700+ million Indian farmers increasingly rely on voice-based agricultural advisory systems. Founded in 2018 by Singh and Amit Kumar, Eeki leverages IoT-powered growing chambers to grow high-quality, nutrient-rich vegetables and fruits. The startup collaborates with land owners and sets up their growing chambers. The startup has around 5 farms across the country including Lakheri Farm, Nanta Farm, Talera Farm, Keshoraipatan Farm and Namana Farm. The startup has an IoT system to gather plants’ and farms’ data to facilitate data-backed decision making. It also has an all-in-one app which helps in managing the farm and claims to be increasing productivity. There are several other devices in the growing chamber including a weather monitoring system, Leaf Temperature sensor, Lux sensor for monitoring sunlight intensity, 5- Probe temperature sensor and THSensor to measure temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide. The idea for a digital platform like India Partner Network (IPN) was seeded, about three years ago, by evidence gathered from data and research, and a hypothesis based on this evidence. We’d seen data that highlighted how small-medium nonprofits in India struggled to grow and absorb philanthropic capital flowing into the sector [1]. This shortcoming among NGOs stemmed mostly from gaps in their own organisational development. Capital was a key constraint for these NGOs, as donors largely funded social impact programs, not org capacity development [2]. But our market research also revealed that existing capacity building options – either high-touch programmes, or websites with fragmented offerings – did not address the scale of the problem. Tens of thousands of nonprofits in India had very limited access to solutions for their organisation development needs. Our hypothesis was that a self-service multi-lingual digital platform dedicated to nonprofit capacity building would fill this gap, complementing existing solution providers and reaching a large segment of small to medium-sized nonprofits. Three years on, new data has strengthened earlier evidence [3] [4], and our hypothesis has proven right in ways we could not have imagined [5] [6]. Bachatt has bagged $4 million (INR 34 Cr+) in a seed funding round jointly led by Lightspeed India and InfoEdge Ventures. Of the total investment, Lightspeed contributed $2.8 million, while Info Edge Ventures, spearheaded by Sanjeev Bikhchandani, injected $1 million into the startup.
