📊 India’s Telecom Pulse – May 2025 Snapshot Here's a quick look at the May 2025 subscriber data and the trends shaping the sector: National Overview – CMS & VLR%: CMS % (India level): 🔹Jio leads with 40.9%, followed by Airtel at 33.6%, VI at 17.6%, and BSNL at 7.8%. 🔹Jio maintains leadership in majority of circles, showing strong presence especially in MP&CG, UP, Bihar, Gujarat, and Maharashtra etc (Total 13 circles). 🔹Airtel remains a close second nationally with leadership in 8+ circles, including NE, HP, Punjab, majority of southern states except Karala and J&K . 🔹VI shows pockets of strength (e.g., leadership in Kerala, significant share in Mumbai) but continues to lag nationally. 🔹BSNL holds low CMS, though has relatively better showing in Kerala and HP. VLR % (India level): 🔹Airtel leads in VLR with 99.1%, indicating an active and high-quality subscriber base. 🔹Jio is close behind at 97.3%, maintaining high user engagement across the board. 🔹VI’s VLR at 84.6% shows a significant gap—highlighting concerns around dormant SIMs or dual-SIM usage. 🔹BSNL at 63.7% continues to struggle with inactive user base, despite its large physical footprint. 🗺️ Regional Highlights: North & Central India: 🔹Jio dominates in CMS across UP (East & West), Bihar, Rajasthan. Airtel leads in J&K, HP, and Punjab. 🔹VLRs are very high (95–107%) in these regions, reflecting stable user bases and active usage. South India: 🔹Airtel leads in Karnataka and TN and AP. 🔹Kerala is unique—VI leads CMS (31%), and BSNL VLR is highest at 115.4%, 🔹hinting at its strong broadband/single SIM rural dominance. 🔹VLR % for all players stays healthy, suggesting good user engagement. East & North-East: 🔹Jio leads in most eastern states (WB, Odisha, Bihar). 🔹Airtel strong in NE and Assam. 🔹VI and BSNL trail with low CMS and weaker VLR.
