After earning his MCA from Dibrugarh University in 2005, Amitabh Roy started as a full-stack developer, only to be jolted by the 2008 financial crisis. Instead of retreating, Amitabh embraced the uncertainty. He quit his job in 2009 and began freelancing, building a reputation for quality and dependability. Troubled by Kolkata’s fragmented IT sector, where either large corporations or under-equipped small firms dominated, he founded Codelogicx in March 2013 with a mission to offer world-class product engineering services. As a first-gen entrepreneur, Amitabh had no mentors to guide him. His parents, hoping for a stable IT career, were wary of his entrepreneurial plunge. He juggled accounts, compliance, legal, and HR single-handedly, learning on the fly. However, convincing skilled developers to join a fledgling company based in Kolkata’s old quarter was a daunting task in 2013. Yet, within months, Amitabh was able to build a small team. Thanks to his freelancing network, a few clients started coming in, and by the end of the first year, CodelogicX earned ₹25 lakhs in revenue. By 2016, CodelogicX was a steady player in the product engineering space, crafting web and mobile apps for tech startups. But Amitabh wasn’t content with just services. He wanted to create a tech product of his own, something that solved real-world problems. Amitabh envisioned a security guard monitoring app, but the lack of mass smartphone penetration at that time stalled the project. After Jio’s late 2016 rollout changed the mobile landscape in India, he revived the idea. In November 2018, he launched The360, a housing society management app, now used by over 50 residential societies in Kolkata. Having experienced the inefficiencies in using multiple project management tools during the COVID-19 pandemic, Amitabh launched TeamTrace in October 2023, a project-cum-productivity management tool. For an organisation, TeamTrace unifies tasks, Scrum workflows, and employee monitoring, offering features like Kanban boards, risk management, and real-time activity logs. TeamTrace has already served over 175 clients in total, including firms with 700 employees, and is currently serving over 110 companies. This flagship product from CodelogicX aims for 1 lakh users and $1 million ARR in the next two years. Today, CodelogicX has global offices in Saudi Arabia, the US, and the UK, and has served over 200 clients worldwide. During FY 2024-25, it crossed ₹14 crore in revenue. Still bootstrapped, it eyes a ₹22 crore revenue during the current FY and an SME IPO within the next few years. With plans to further expand into the Middle East and open a mega office in Kolkata, Amitabh Roy is proving that world-class innovation can emerge from unexpected corners.
