With the whole world talking about DeepSeek and its rapid entry into the AI landscape, I discussed the latest disruption, and its impact on India, with Ganesh Rao from CNBC What we’ve seen over the last week is the shattering of cost and computational barriers for foundational AI models. On the surface this democratizes access and levels a competitive playing field. What it hasn’t changed is the need for good data. Without sufficient high-quality labelled data, the potential of faster and cheaper AI models remains unrealized. For us at WNS the rapid pace of innovation in this space will continue to expand our addressable market and add even more momentum to the AI tailwind. Recently, we launched Charging Ahead: Transforming India’s Lithium-ion Battery Recycling Ecosystem — a report by ICEA (India Cellular & Electronics Association) in collaboration with Accenture. At its core, it tackles a simple but urgent question: What happens to the lithium-ion batteries powering our phones, EVs, and renewable energy systems once they reach end-of-life? Today, only 1% of these batteries in India are recycled into battery-grade materials domestically. But with the right actions, we could unlock a $3.5B circular economy by 2030, create over 40k new jobs, and deliver major environmental gains in emissions and water savings. Our report calls for action in four areas — boosting domestic cell manufacturing, scaling hydrometallurgical recycling, streamlining LiB scrap & black mass trade, and strengthening reverse logistics. The opportunity is real, and the solutions are actionable. With committed policy, smart investment, and collaboration across the value chain, India can lead in lithium-ion battery recycling — proving that sustainability and economic growth can move forward together.
