If you are working on a large-scale live project, an SDET should follow some simple Git best practices to keep the automation code stable and easy to manage. 1. Never commit directly to main/master
Always create a feature branch.
Example: feature/login-automation, bugfix/cart-test. 2. Use clear branch names
Branch name should explain the work.
Example: feature/api-user-tests, refactor/page-object. 3. Make small meaningful commits
Avoid large commits.
Good examples: * Add login test with valid credentials * Fix flaky checkout test * Refactor API helper class 4. Pull latest code before pushing
Always update your branch before push.
git pull origin main
This avoids merge conflicts. 5. Use Pull Requests for merging
Create PR → Code review → Merge.
This ensures automation quality and framework standards. 6. Do not hardcode test data
Keep test data and configs separate.
Example folders: config/, testdata/. 7. Never commit secrets
Avoid pushing API keys, tokens, passwords.
Use .env or environment variables and add them to .gitignore. 8. Do not merge flaky tests
Fix unstable tests before merging to main. 9. Tag stable releases
Example: v1.2-regression-suite or release-2026-tests. 10. Keep repository clean

Here’s a solid way to answer this: 🔹 Important: Selenium WebDriver methods like click() or sendKeys() cannot be directly overridden because they belong to final classes or interfaces. Instead, we create custom wrapper methods in our framework — usually inside a BasePage or ActionHelper class — to extend and enhance their behavior. The biggest myth in QA?   100% automation.  I have heard it too many times:   “Let’s automate everything.”   “Once we cover all test cases, quality is guaranteed.”  But automation has limits.   It cannot test user experience.   It cannot explore the unexpected.   It cannot think like a real customer.  The goal is not 100% automation.   The goal is confidence in releases.  Automation is a tool.   QA is the strategy.
